This two-part test is conducted and confirmedby an independent testing organization and is an officialconfirmation that the operator is familiar with lifting principles, the forces acting on the crane, jobsite set up, and safeoperation of the equipment.5-day class, 12 participants maxIAMU u 800.810.4268 u cranetraining@iamu.org u 3

CERTIFIEDRIGGINGAll Certified Riggers safely use and recognize the limitations of: chains synthetics metal mesh(es) wire rope slings hooks and similar attachingdevices shackles wire rope clips clamps eyebolts softeners taglinesAll rigger level knowledge testing and skills evaluationswill be conducted in accordance with NCCER testingprocedures. Certification is granted through NCCER.A certified rigger is a person who has beentrained and certified to handle and moveloads. The level of certification depends uponthe individual’s training, knowledge, skillbase, and ability to perform functions relatedto the selection, inspection, and proper use ofrigging equipment. Each load, pick, crane, or jobsite mayrequire rigging that varies from simple tocomplex. Each is unique. The persondesignated as the rigger must have theability to properly rig the load for a particularjob. Many construction companies requirecertified riggers be used to attach the loadto a crane hook. We offer three levels ofRigger certification to help you reach thatnext step in your profession.Basic Rigger identifies common loadconfigurations and positioning demonstrates specificknowledge of: crane operations voice and radio communications(as defined in ASME B30.2, ASMEB30.3, ASME B30.5, ASME B30.6) personal fall protection methods emergency procedures hazards and restrictions with workingin proximity to overhead electric linesand equipment.1-day class, 10 participants maxIAMU u 800.810.4268 u cranetraining@iamu.org u 4

Qualified Overhead Crane/HoistOperator & Qualified RiggerThe Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards foroverhead cranes state, “Only designated personnel shall be permittedto operate a crane covered by this section” (1910.179(b)(8).“Designated,”according to 1910.179(a)(35), refers to those individuals deemed to bequalified to operate an overhead crane for a specific application. While OSHA standards do not spell out overhead crane trainingrequirements, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers doesget specific in the ASME B30.2 standard. Section 2-3.1.2 states thattraining has to be specific to the equipment and task, or application,at hand.ASME B30.2 even offers a “but not limited to” list of what a trainingprogram should cover, as well as the responsibilities of a craneoperator and others involved in moving loads. It further states thata company’s management is responsible to “provide training topersons who will operate a crane” (Section 2-3.3.3(b).This one-day, easy-to-understand class will be taught at your locationto all personnel who operate overhead cranes or underhung hoists.1/2-day class, hands-on practical, dependent upon number of participantsIAMU u 800.810.4268 u cranetraining@iamu.org u 6This includes: bridge cranes gantry cranes jib cranesAll used in a fixed location and used formaterial handling. This class will ensure that operatorsunderstand their responsibilities for safeuse, and they comply with all of OSHA,ASME, and the equipment requirementsas a Qualified Operator.Qualified Operators will successfullyconduct a visual and audible preoperational inspection of the crane andthe wire rope/chain before moving thecrane or lifting material.

Qualified Overhead Crane/HoistOperator & Qualified RiggerEach Qualified Operator will demonstrate: how to locate and verify the location of the crane disconnect lockout/tagout requirements for cranes proper control labeling pendant safety requirements warning and capacity labeling requirements guarding requirements how to operate limit control switches bumper and stop requirements load path personnel safetyQualified operators will: demonstrate smooth and controlled load movements identify load hook and latch requirements avoid shock loading and side pull demonstrate how to shut down and secure the craneBe familiar with: basic visual inspection terminology uses of lifting devices visual inspection wire rope/chain slings hooks shackles below-the-hook devicesEach Qualified Rigger will be trained to the samelevel as the Certified Basic Rigger.Certified Signalperson1-day class, 10 participants maxHaving a trained and competent signalperson is as important as having a trained and competent crane operator. The Signalperson is proficient in the performance of hand and verbal signals, including the standard methods forhand signals as required by ASME B30.2, ASME B30.3, ASME B30.5, and ASME B30.6.The Signalperson demonstrates: basic knowledge of crane operations and limitations personal fall protection methods crane dynamics involved in the swinging, controlling, emergency proceduresand stopping of loads hazards and restrictions with working in proximity to the boom deflections from hoisting loadsoverhead electric lines and equipment voice and radio communicationsIAMU u 800.810.4268 u cranetraining@iamu.org u 7
