This coursewill include important practiceand background information onanatomy of the heart and physiology,medical disease processes, medicalterminology, medical ethics, legalaspects of patient contact, the Holtermonitor, electrocardiography andechocardiography.Additionally, students will practicewith equipment and perform handson labs including introduction to thefunction and proper use of the ECGmachine, the normal anatomy of thechest wall for proper lead placement,12-lead placement and other clinicalpractices. ECG Technicians alsoanalyze printed readings of ECGtests, measuring various “cardiacintervals and complexes” anddetermining normal vs. abnormalECG. Certification details to be givenby instructor.In the last class, students will take the4-hour American Heart Associations’Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) course. Itteaches both single-rescuer and teambasic support skills for applicationin both prehospital and in-facilityenvironments, with a focus on highquality CPR and team dynamics.Upon successful completion, studentswill receive their Healthcare Providercertification e-card (valid for 2 years)by email within 20 days. The AHA BLScourse is included in the cost of theECG program. Students who do notcomplete the BLS training included inthe course will need to complete andpay for the BLS certification on theirown and submit proof to receive theircertificate of completion.WORKFORCE TRAINING PROGRAMSheld in the classroom at Three RiversCommunity College. Students willbe responsible for completing theremaining 100 hours at individualclinical sites. Thiscourse will provide dental assistantstudents with the fundamentalprinciples upon which dentalradiology is based. The course willcover basic radiation health andsafety.
