SELECTEDNON INDEX CRIMESDUI A R R E S T S2011 CRIME IN TEXASDEFINITION4the DUI arrest rate from 2010 was a decrease of7.8 percent.For UCR purposes, Driving Under the Influence(DUI) is the driving or operating of any motor vehi cle or common carrier while under the influence ofliquor or narcotics.NatureAny consideration of the number and rate of DUIarrests must be reconciled with the fact that manyfactors control the ability of law enforcement per sonnel to detect drunken drivers. Among thesignificant factors which drive the DUI arrest rateare: media coverage of the DUI problem, publicawareness, availability of funds for patrol officerovertime, and the skill and training in DUI detectionof law officers.ANALYSISVolumeAs with all Part II non index crimes, information onthe number of reported crimes is not collected bythe UCR program for this offense. However, thenumber of persons arrested for this crime iscollected.Persons ArrestedOf the 87,644 persons arrested for DUI in 2011,only .77 percent were juveniles (16 and under); 79percent were male; 90 percent were White; 9 per cent were Black and the remainder were otherraces; 58 percent were not Hispanic and 42 per cent were Hispanic. The age group with the highestnumber of DUI arrestees was the 20 to 24 year oldgroup.
