Thetests are still the same and, at first glance, we’re still using thesame sorts of instruments. But dig a little deeper and you’llfind the reality is rather different. While it’s true that the basic principles of testing were setmany years ago, Megger continues to push forward withinnovation in this sector, always with the aim of making lifeeasier, safer and more convenient for its customers. In 2006, for example, we pioneered two-wire non-trip looptesting which built on existing principles and techniques. And now, with our new MFT1741 multifunction tester,we’ve introduced an entirely new model for loop impedancetesting. This gives faster and more accurate measurementsthan are possible with current methods, especially whentesting on systems with high electrical noise levels or circuitswith phantom impedances.Take a few minutes to look through this catalogue, andyou’ll find a whole range of other innovations, all developedspecifically to help you work more efficiently and moreprofitably. Maybe not much has changed in recent yearswith instruments from other suppliers but, at Megger, theinnovation never stops!Power onKeeping your customers’ power on is essentialfor the success of your business. Multifunction testersMFT1701 seriesThe MFT1701 series is tough, even tougher thanits popular predecessor. It won’t go bang whenconnected across phases, when it gets dropped orbounced, when it’s used in the rain, when the wrongrange is selected or when accidentally connected to livecircuits – even with the test locked on!Dust and rain proof to IP54, the MFT1701 series offers CATIV safety, meaning that you can use it in any environmentwithout a second thought. To make it more convenient, testbuttons are located at either end of the tester meaning youcan use the hand that is available to initiate testing, or youcan use the CAT IV probe with test button if you prefer. We have changed the features on each of the testers, introducing useful functions such as ZMAX and Auto RCD onthe complete range. Even the carry case has been re-thought;there is now a large soft carry case on the MFT1731. TheMFT1711 is the perfect single-phase tester for domestic workwhile the MFT1721 and MFT1731 are three-phase testersextending the applications in to the commercial and industrialarenas. With the changing market, and the opportunity thatinstallation of vehicle charging points affords, the MFT1731now offers a selection of earth electrode tests.Trade ef ThTool o atyear alicElectr rysIndu t 018s2AwardAWWIN ARDPRO NINGDUOFC201 T8!Loop testing rangesn 2 and 3-wire non-trip with resolution of 0.01Ω L-PEn L-PE 48 V to 280 V, 45 Hz to 65Hzn High current loop testing L–L and L-Nn L-L 48 V to 480 V, 45 Hz to 65Hz dependanton modeln Tests through 30 mA RCDsn PFC or PSCC measurement at same time as loopresistancen Auto-start loop testRCD testing rangesn Auto RCD on all testersn RCD Ramp test to measure exact RCD tripping currentn Type A, AC, B, Selective, programmable and 3-phaseRCDs dependant on modeln Auto-start RCD test dependant on modelContinuity and resistance testing rangen 200 mA test with an option of 15 mA on MFT1721,MFT1731 and MFT1741n Auto-start continuity testn Easy test lead null – stored even when switched offn Fast buzzer with adjustable threshold on all testersn Resistance measurement from 0.01 Ω to 99.9 kΩInsulation testing rangesn 250 V, 500 V and 1000 V on all models and 1100V onMFT1721, MFT1731 and MFT1741n Test voltage displayed during insulation resistancemeasurementn Adjustable buzzer threshold on MFT1721, MFT1731 andMFT1741n 25 V or 50 V test inhibit optionn Protection against live circuits up to600 V even when test locked-onVoltage, phase rotation and frequency test rangen 10 V – 600 V a.c. / d.c. Multifunction tester with looptest confidence meterMFT1741 Faster, smarter 3-wire non-trip looptesting Confidence meter for stable resultson noisy 3 wire circuits Results unaffected by RCD and RCBOimpedance Tests through 10 mA RCDs and RCBOs 2 -wire non-trip loop testing wherethere is no neutral H igh speed 2-wire high current looptesting for unprotected circuitst Insulation testing C ontinuity and resistancemeasurement P hase rotation rue RMS voltage and frequency TmeasurementAWAWIN RDNPRO INGDUOF 2 CT018! ingle and 3-phase RCD testing S arth electrode testing E est results storage T echargeable batteries RHave renewed confidence in your 3-wire non-trip looptesting. The key differences between MFT1741 and rest ofthe multifunction tester range is the completely new internalhardware architecture, a unique loop testing algorithm thatshows the degree of confidence that can be placed on theresults. When loop testing on a quiet circuit, the MFT1741 quicklyreturns a provisional reading and an arc is displayed. Thisvery rapidly diminishes to a single element, indicating thatthe user can be highly confident of the result. The final resultis normally available within 8 seconds compared with thestandard test time of 15 seconds. On noisy circuits the tester displays a reading as the arcgradually shrinks. The result can be taken while the meteris in this ‘less confident’ phase but, given time, the arc willdiminish to the single element, high confidence state. Ifadditional noise is detected while the arc is diminishing, itwill expand again, indicating increased uncertainty, beforereducing to a single element, high confidence state, this isaccompanied by a noise symbol appearing on the display. The results delivered by the MFT1741 are unaffected byany impedance of the RCD or RCBO in the circuit. Thelikelihood of tripping the RCD or RCBO during test is nowall but removed, whilst the meter retains the capability oftesting Type AC, Type A and Type B breakers. In addition, the MFT1741 can carry out a no-trip loop test on circuitsprotected by 10mA RCDs or RCBOs, often seen in speciallocations, schools and hospitals. On starting the test thecomplete arc is showndisplaying a lack of confidencein the reading. The arc diminishes until onlyone element remains showinghigh confidence in the result. As confidence in the readingincreases, the arc shrinks unlessthere is additional electricalnoise. The MFT1741 confidentlyreports the full result.ToolTrade yearof The tricalcat Ele trysudnIs 2018draAwIn all other functions and features the MFT1741 is identicalto the MFT1731. 2-wire non-trippingloop testersLTW series2 wire testingThe loop test is performed with only 2 test leads. Thiscan be either: Phase to Earth Phase to Neutral Phase to Phase (depending on model)Testing is simple. There is no need for a third wire whichcould cause confusion in identifying the part of the circuitunder test.Non-trip loop testingLTW series testers do not trip working RCDs or RCBOs of 30mA or greater, using the non-trip loop test.Noise detection on non-trip testsLTW uses sophisticated noise detection circuitry whichcontinually monitors the supply during a loop test to ensurethe accuracy of the result has not been affected by electricalnoise from plant and services. Two operational modes are available:a) P erforms a 10 second test and if noise is detected awarning is displayed.b) Automatically extends a test to improve the accuracy.High current loop testingFor supplies that are not RCD protected the high current testcan be used, as there is no risk of tripping the RCD.The popular LTW325 comescomplete, ready for workAuto startAn auto-start function will start the test as soon as thecircuit voltage is detected, removing the need of a thirdhand and allowing for much faster testing.Three-phase safeThe instruments will operate from 50 V phase to earth, upto 440 V phase to phase with the exception of the LTW315which operates between 110 V and 280 V.High resolution testLTW425 offers a high current, high resolution loop test tothree decimal places (0.001 Ω).PFC DisplayAll instruments can calculate PFC and PSCC up to20 kA and the LTW425 can calculate up to 40 kA using the0.001 high current, resolution test range.Packed with featuresUses only two wires to loop testWill not trip RCDs while loop testingWill not take out 6 A MCBsClear easy to read display3-phase safe50 V to 480 V operationPFC displayStable test resultsUSB downloading on LTW335Max Z facility, not on LTW315Calculated R1 R2, not on LTW315Take a closer lookuk.megger.com/LTW300 anduk.megger.com/LTW40012Electrical test instrumentswww.megger.com
