2From your Vicar As a nation, we are preparing for another presidential election andParishes in this Diocese are on their way to elect the office bearers for the coming year, itis apt to look into the nature and qualities of “leadership”. Among the different views onleadership, Jesus’ approach to leadership is noteworthy. Regarding the question on powerand position, we can read Jesus’ reply in Mark. 10: 43f . “Whoever wants to becomegreat among you must be your servant and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all.For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give life as aransom for many.” The question may arise, “can we become slaves to become leaders?”Not necessary. But it is a question of view and perception of leadership. Basically, theleadership is obedience to God’s call and service for others. The efficiency of leadershipcan be measured in terms of its contribution in molding the second line of leadership andsuccess of teamwork for the service of the community. May the Holy Spirit guide andstrengthen us towards that end, as the Parish is entering into the search of new leadership. Two Sundays of the month of October needs mentioning. 19th Oct. is theYouth Sunday and 26th Oct. is the Family Sunday. Youth constitute the most energeticand resourceful section of the community. The crucial responsibility of the parents is thenurturing and guiding of the children. As family is the basic unit of nurturing andinculcating of values, parents have to make sure that children are available and accessiblefor and to all possible means of instructions. Here comes the role of family prayers, worship services, area prayer meetings and other opportunities of Bible studies and otherlearning. If we fail to give what we ought to give to our children, they may not get thatanywhere else.Ability is what we are capable of doing. Motivation determines what we doAttitude determines how well we do it.May the Holy Spirit give us the ability, motivation and attitude to worktowards God’s will. With prayerful regardsEpiphany Mar Thoma ParsonageYours in Christ’s Service22nd Sept. 2008P.J.Vragheseachen
