Vicar’s message:Dearly Beloved in Christ,By the grace of God, we are given one more Easter Season in ourlife. This season observes 7 weeks before the feast of Pentecostduring the month of April – May. This is the period when the Churchis remembering and celebrating the resurrection of our blessedLord from the dead and ascension into heaven. According to theChurch Lectionary 2017, April 23rd is the “New Sunday” (FirstSunday after Easter).Let us thank God for all the blessings we are enjoying in our livesand also prepare ourselves to receive more. Because of the socio,political and economic conditions in the country, the days to comemay be challenging one. But in the midst of all these, the word ofGod is always sustaining and empowering us. According to thePsalmist, even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear noevil; for you are with me: your rod and your staff – they comfortme. This assurance is eternal and everlasting and our sole source ofstrength.I would like to share few thoughts from St. John 20: 24 -29, V 28“Thomas answered and said to Him, my Lord and my God.” Thedisciples kept themselves behind a door which is closed and locked.But it is a door that does not keep the risen Christ out. Jesus walksthrough that closed, locked door to get to Thomas. Though thedoors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and saidpeace be with you then He said to Thomas put your finger here: seemy hands. Reach out your hand and put it in to my side. Stopdoubting and believe. Thomas said to Him, “My Lord and My God”(V 26&27).
A careful review of this passage reveals that all the disciples haveessentially the same evidence. Jesus showed them His hands andHis side, even as He pronounced His first blessing of Peace. Thomaswants the same assurance of hand and side. His deeperunderstanding of the risen Christ leads to the deeper experiencewith Jesus. Here the personal conviction of Thomas demands thatour faith in Jesus is to be faithful and committed towards ourspiritual journey in this world. In Risen Christ, God has gives as anew understanding of history which is heading towards a newheaven and new earth. What is expected from us is to being truetoday to the vision of tomorrow.The Edavaka Mission Convention will be held on May 5th Friday to7th Sunday. Very Rev. C.A Varghese (Former Vicar) will give themessage. Sunday, May 14th will be observed as Mother’s day.“Mother – is the most beautiful word on the lips of mankind” (KhalilGibran).Let us thank God for our mothers and for their selfless love,dedication, care and faithfulness. Sunday school examination will beheld on 7th of May. May I request all parents to make sure yourchildren participation in Sunday school examination.As we move on, I seek your wholehearted co-operation and supporttowards our parish activities. YOUTH CHAPLAIN’S CORNER.Isaiah 66:13a – As a mother comforts her child, so I willcomfort you;On May 14th we will be celebrating Mother’sDay. Throughout the bible, God often uses the relationship betweena mother and her child, to illustrate the way He loves Hischildren. In this passage, God speaks of comforting the Israelitesthe way a mother comforts her child.Comfort is one of the main concepts in Isaiah 40-66. Isaiah40 begins with “Comfort, O comfort my people.” The people werein need of comfort. They had sinned and God had punishedthem. But now was the time of restoration and transformation. Theypeople had to be comforted in order to encourage them to see thatthings were going to be different. They had to be comforted to knowthat things were going to change, and God was the one who wasgoing to change things.The picture of a mother comforting her child, creates animage of a very deep and personal love. A love that is demonstratedin big and small actions. A constant love that is constantlydemonstrated.As we reflect on this verse and God’s love for us, let us alsoreflect on our mother’s love for us. How she has comforted us andprayed for us. Abraham Lincoln once said, “I always remember mymother’s prayers, and they have always followed me. They cling tome all my life. “Another person once said, “A Mother holds her child’s handsfor a short while, but their hearts forever.” Let us always thank Godfor our mothers.
