It was alovely Assembly where all our children witnessed our new Captains and Vice Captains making theirpledges and having their badges pinned on by their parents. Children in years 3-6 as well as those children in Year 2 who are turning 8 this year and canswim 50m unaided are eligible to attend. Tomorrow is predicted to be extremely hot. Children arereminded to bring hats, sunscreen to apply throughout the day and plenty of water. Children who arespectating and all children who have finished their swimming commitments by 11am will return toschool so as not to be exposed to the heat for any longer than necessary. Children who are competingin other swimming events will remain at the pool, complete their events and return to school atapproximately 1pm. We invite all parents and friends to come and support tomorrow.Bookpacks - Thank you to all the families who have already purchased their child’s/children’sBookpacks.A friendly reminder to all school families, Bookpack fees are due now. Class teachers are eager to startworking in each key learning area book and require all children to have bookpacks.Kindergarten Bookpacks are 30Yr 1 – Yr 6 are 27Bookpacks can be paid for at the front office.

Year 6 Jumpers: Another order of Year 6 Jumpers will be done to ensure all children, including newstudents, have the opportunity to purchase a jumper. Year 6 children can also purchase another jumperif one is required. Orders will be accepted until Friday 24th February. Please contact the school officeto order and pay for a jumper.School Photos: Our school photos will be taken on Tuesday 21st February. We will be usingAdvanced Life Photography again. Envelopes for school photos have been sent home last week. Please note ALL money goes directly to AdvancedLife Photography and is not processed by the school.Parent/Teacher Interviews and Reporting: As a staff we continue to modify our Assessment andReporting practices so we can ensure parents obtain feedback each term on their child’s progress fromtheir child’s classroom teacher. At any time, if parents have any concerns or issues about your child’slearning, you are encouraged to contact the school to make an appointment to speak with your child’sclassroom teacher. This is a Legal and Workplace Safety requirement and is followed for thesafety and security of all children and teachers.We continue to encourage parents to make appointments to come and talk about your child’sprogress, problems that may arise, ideas etc. It is reminded that the education of your child is ateam effort with teachers and parents being the main stakeholders. With this in mind, it is animportant reminder that the parent/teacher relationship always needs to be cohesive andsupportive and one of mutual respect. I am sure we will continue to work with one another in apositive manner.All money coming to the school should be placed in a sealed envelope with your child’s name,correct amount of money, class and what the money is for clearly written on the front. Online PaymentsIt is now possible for parents to make online payments to the school for amounts owing for students,via a secure payment page hosted by Westpac. Payments can be made using either a Visa orMasterCard credit or debit card, and can be made via computer, tablet or mobile phone. The paymentpage is accessed from the front page of the schools website by selecting Make a payment.This is a secure payment system hosted by Westpac to ensure that your credit/debit card details arecaptured in a secure manner. These details are not passed back to the school.Once payment is made, the parent permission note MUST be returned to the school. Allpayments and permission notes must be made and returned by the cut-off date on the note.Payment for an activity does not give permission for a student to be involved so pleaseremember to send the permission note back immediately.Moneyand Notesnumber that is given upon payment.All permission notes returned must includethe referenceAs all parents and children are aware, all money, when it comes to school for an event, goes directly tothe school office. This procedure is working well and we thank everyone for following this process.When children and/or parents return permission notes to school, they also need to be taken to theoffice. All notes will be collated and kept in the office and staff will pick up notes from the office afterthe closing date. We are hoping this streamlines the process with notes.School Contributions 2017The Department of Education and Communities sets the contribution level. The funds are used topurchase reading and maths materials for the benefit of all students. Without these contributions, weare unable to provide resources of the highest quality that meet our expectations for your children.Fees can be paid by sending cash or cheque in a sealed envelope with your child’s name, class andSchool Fees written on it to the front office or by coming to the school and paying by cash, cheque orEFTPOS. Fees can also be paid using POP. The fees are: 50.00 (1 child) 90.00 (2 children) 120.00 (3 or more children)In addition to the School Fees, each child is asked to pay a: 15.00 levy for Technology (each child K-6) 15 levy for resourcesThese levies will enable us to provide more software and classroom resources such as readers andmaths equipment for the children to use. Booklink – Bathurst City LibraryBooklink has begun for 2016-17!It continues on through the year ending on the 31st July 2017. This programme aims toencourage children to have lots of fun reading. Children between the ages of 1 - 17 canearn rewards for filling in a log of library books borrowed from Bathurst City Library.Everyone who joins Booklink is a winner!Everytime you complete a logbook you will receive a discount token for BooksPlus ABCShop and a lucky dip prize. Logbooks are available at the library and here.Things you need to know.The books you read should be at your reading levelYou need to be a member of the library to enrol in Booklink.Joining the library is FREE! Books recorded in your logbook should be books borrowed fromBathurst Library. You may also record books read from your School Library orDaycare Centre on the back section of the logbook. Please do not record boughtbooks. There will be a BIG PARTY during Children's Book Week (3rd week in August) forall participants at the library and everyone receives a prize. Overall winners receive special prizes from C.W.A. & BooksPlus. LOST PROPERTY and CLOTHING POOLClothing Pool is open Tuesday & Friday mornings from 8.30am-9.00am. If this is inconvenient, pleasering me to arrange another time.Most items are for sale for a 2 donation per item purchased. Occasionally we get some school dressesand these will be sold for a 5 donation. All money collected goes back into the school for resources.If your child has out-grown their uniforms, drop them into the school office and we will recycle themfor you.The Lost property basket is now emptied of Logo jumpers and hats. Canteen NewsThe canteen is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday &Friday.The ‘Department of Education’ and ‘Healthy Canteen Association’ are currently updatingthe ‘Nutrition in Schools Policy’, their main focus is looking at salt & sugar content andserving sizes. Whilst the policy is not fully completed, BPS P&C and BPS Staff see theimportance of healthy eating choices for children, for this reason we have made somechanges to the menu.We will no longer have: Chips Chicken burgersNew to the menu: Pasta salad Frozen pineapple rings Crunchy salad cups – (containing seasonal cut up fruit & vegetables)Please note: when this policy is completed there may be other recommended changes,eg. currently we have left vegemite sandwiches on the menu, but this item may bedeleted in the future due to the salt content.The P&C value the suggestions and opinions of students, parents and staff, if you haveany suggestions or questions in regard to the canteen please either attend the next P&Cmeeting or place a note in the canteen slot.Flexi-schoolsDon’t forget flexi-schools is a convenient way to place your order. You can put your name, class, order and money in a paper bag and place it in thecanteen slot before 9am.What food choices are there?The canteen complies with the ‘Nutrition in Schools’ policy and promotes healthy eating.Our menu is coloured coded to help with choices. Everyday foods are marked with a green tick and can be found under the greenheadings, these are the recommended choices. Sometimes foods can be found under the orange headings. Occasional foods / treats can be found under the red headings.We have also included daily maximum recommendations on some items to help whenmaking choices.How do I collect my recess order?There is a special line marked ‘Recess Orders’, once dismissed from class, go there toreceive your order.What if I didn’t order recess?There is a limited supply of hot food available at the canteen. Line up at the un-markedwindow to be served. Snacks and drinks are also available – see menu for choices.How do I collect my lunch order?Your class teacher will either send students to collect the class basket or you will besent individually. If you ordered frozen items you will need to return to the canteen tocollect them at 2nd half lunch.What can I buy at lunch time?You can purchase snacks, drinks, or frozen items at the canteen- see menu for choices –all hot food, sandwiches & salads must be ordered.What if I forgot to order?
