Candidautre: ISC - Sheridan Burke - ISC20C2018 Electoral Platform Statement for candidate for Scientific Council OfficerSheridan Burke, Secretary General 20th Century Heritage ISCI’ve been an active member of Australia ICOMOS since 1978 and was elected to theinternational Executive Committee 1996-2005. I’ve always actively participated in thework of the Advisory Committee and the Scientific Council, particularly sincebecoming president of the Advisory Committee in 2015 when I was the President ofthe ISC Twentieth Century Heritage.I’m standing for election as a Scientific Council Officer to continue my enthusiasticcommitment to ICOMOS by: Facilitating ICOMOS Scientific Dialogue: I’d like to continue to reduce timespent in administration at annual Advisory Committee meetings so we canfocus more on current scientific and emerging conservation issues that needinternational engagement and interdisciplinary discourse between ICOMOSmembers, committees and partners. Refreshing ICOMOS Communications: The ACOs currently meet monthlyby skype to spread the workload and accountability, and I would support thatapproach continuing. Similarly, I feel that the pattern of regional, nationalcommittee and Scientific Council meetings being held separately, a dayahead of Advisory Committee meeting helps to facilitate efficient discussionsand decisions. This year I presented an ICOMOS Communications Plan to the Board toimprove external and member communications. and also recommendationsfor co-ordinating a Heritage at Risk Observatory, both projects which I’d like tosee through to implementation with committees and members during the nexttriennium Engaging Emerging Practitioners(EP) in ICOMOS Succession Planning:I’m an enthusiastic member of the EP Working Group and introduced amentoring program in ISC20C to provide useful roles, experiences andopportunities for their professional development. As ISC20C SecretaryGeneral I’m personally implementing this commitment by facilitating the cooption of EPs onto its bureau and active involvement in all facets of ISC20Cprojects.
