The transition to an electricity systembased on renewable sources is characterised by anincreasing need to provide flexible, demand-drivenenergy in order to compensate power supply fromfluctuating sources, like solar or wind. Bioenergy hasthe potential to supply peak demands and to provideancillary services in a flexible, resource- and costefficient way. Therefore, the aim of the conference isto highlight and discuss the frameworks, conditions, alternatives and consequences of a demand-drivenbioenergy supply in an energy system in transition. In addition to the national and internationalframeworks, the main focus of the conference is ontechnological, economic, environmental, social andlocal issues.3

Exciting tracks lead you throughthe rainforest in a huge tropical hall where animals from thesethree continents will cross your path. Birds will fly throughthe air and monkeys climb in the trees. With multimedia techniques evolution is shown in an exciting and interactive waylike a colourful history book.11Source: Zoo Leipzig12Source: Zoo LeipzigIBC LEIPZIG INTERNATIONAL BIOMASS CONFERENCE2012 IBC LEIPZIG

25 APRIL 201215:00 Parallel workshops1. Systems analysis of bioenergy –models and scenariosLocation: Zeitgeschichtliches Forum, hall, 3rd FloorAim of the workshop is to introduce existing models and scenarios of current and future energy systems and the analysisand assessment of the necessity, requirements, possibilitiesand solutions for flexible power supply within the tools. The seminar takes place in cooperation withDeutsches BiomasseForschungsZentrum, Institut für ZukunftsEnergieSysteme, Universität Leipzig & Helmholtz-Zentrum fürUmweltforschung2. Technical possibilities for increasing powerplant flexibilityLocation: Zeitgeschichtliches Forum, seminar room 1, 4th FloorWithin the workshop, technological issues of flexible powerproduction will be discussed. This includes possibilities andproblems of dynamic modeling and simulation as well as thedevelopment of process control technology for plants and integrated systems. Furthermore, practical questions on the balancing of voltage and frequency fluctuations within the power gridwill be addressed.3. Market development and German RenewableEnergy Source Act (EEG)Location: Zeitgeschichtliches Forum, seminar room 2, 4th FloorThe focus of this workshop will be to describe the status quomarket framework conditions of bioenergy production for thebackground of the new incentives for bioenergy productionwithin the German Renewable Energy Source Act (EEG) since2012. Future market developments are based on a fluctuantand periodical increasing price development of biogas substrates and solid biofuels. Thus the target of this workshopwill be to present and discuss possible impacts of feedstockavailability and market prices in corresponds to the economicfeasebility of bioenergy production in EEG plants.13BC LEIPZIG INTERNATIONAL BIOMASS CONFERENCE 2012 IBC LEIPZIG
