( la6A clCidtoryIn the year 1945, 49 bewildered children entered upon the sea of school life. Some of us were frightened and cried while others were brave and held the tearsback. As the days wore on we gained confidence in ourselves and lost our fear ofschool life under the guidance of our dear "Miss Eva.”As the years passed we realized that we were making progress, but when weproudly entered the ninth grade we found that there was still a long way beforewe could reach our destination—graduation.During our first year of high school the girls were initiated into the HomeEconomics Club and the boys were initiated into the Future Farmers of America. We entertained our mothers at a Mother and Daughter Banquet that year. With the arrival of our Sophomore year we felt very wise because we were nolonger considered "Green Freshmen.” In this year Barbara Alice Leonard andCharles Barham joined our class. Again, we entertained our mothers at a Motherand Daughter Banquet. When we entered the Junior class we knew that there were many events instore for us. In November of that year we went on our trip to Williamsburg. Eightmembers of our class became members of the Beta Club. We ordered our class ringsand were very proud when they arrived. Another highlight of this year was whenwe entertained, with Mrs. Mary Murphy’s help, the Seniors at our Junior-SeniorBanquet at Rocky Mount. Also, that year we very proudly presented our Juniorplay, "Betty, the Girl of My Heart.”The last lap of our journey, our senior year, was the happiest and busiest ofall. Our annual "Golden Memories,” was published after much hard work. InDecember we presented our Senior Play, "Mama’s Baby Boy,” with eleven mem bers of our class taking part. We were entertained at a marvelous Junior-SeniorBanquet, and our Washington trip took place in March. When we reach the destination of our journey we will be proud and happy, but also sad, because we will have to part from our friends and classmates at GoldSand. Now, that we look back upon our journey we see that it has been long, buthappy; also we see many people who have helped us along our way. To thesepeople we would like to say, "Thank you” and you will remain in our "GOLDENMEMORIES” always.CAROLYN GRIFFIN—Historian
