WIU!AMS, Dean of Studei,hBaptists are a verydemocratic body.Every Baptist churchis free to supportsuch worthy causesas it will. It remains for each Baptist church to determine for itself whatschools and missionary agencies merittheir financial aid.In consequence of this democratic freedom, our Baptist institutions often sufferwhile agencies and institutions which arenot committed to the propagation ofBaptist principles and convictions findmuch of their support from within ourBaptist constituency. In view of this fact,there are certain questions which Baptistsshould consider, especially with referenceto the matter of training our youngpeople today for places of leadership inour churches tomorrow. FirstDO WE NEED OUR OWN INSTITUTIONSOF HIGHER LEARNING?Dear Reader, may we ask you toconsider this question seriously. As wesee it, there are only two alternate conclusions: either Baptists have no distincti ves which are worth the sacrifice involved in maintaining our own schools,or we must expect schools other thanBaptist to inculate them. It is not truethat many churches today are Baptistonly I in name, and that very largely dueto the fact that its leadership has hadso little appreciation for those truthsheld in combination which have distinguished Baptists throughout their longhistory. Has it ever occurred to you thatthe compromise involved in "interdenominationalism" is preparing a generationof conservatives today for co-operationwith the encumenical movement tomorrow? Are you really a Baptist, or is thatmerely a name which for you has lostall historical significance? If our Baptistcause is to survive in this day of compromise, we must train our own leadership, not only for the ministry, but forother positions of responsibility in ourchurches. This leads us to askWHAT ARE THE POSSIBILITIES OfCEDARVILUl MEETING THIS NIEED?To this question we want to state thefacts fairly and honestly. Cedarville College was granted a charter to grant degrees by the State of Ohio in 1887. Fromthat date until this, Cedarville has hadan unbroken history of annual graduations. This institution came underBaptist administration in 1953. Ourphysical assets include a beautiful campus of 16 acres, a three-story administration building, a three-story science building, a splendid library building ( a gift ofthe late Andrew Carnegie), a very goodgymnasium, a music building, a chapelseating 200 persons, a dining hall, andfive dormitories. Our academic assets include a full-time faculty of eleven consecrated men and two Godly women inaddition to the President, plus a library ofapproximately 20,000 volumes. A board oftrusteesnumberingtwenty-seven,of

CEDARViUI!: IHILU:l!NBaptist brethren with a deep concern forthe perpetuation of our precious Baptistheritage, together with an increasing number of churches which share our conv1ct10ns; these, under God, constituteour financial resources.Cedarville is not a member of aregional accrediting association, but inthis it is not alone. There are a numberof small colleges in Ohio which are not accredited. Efforts are being put forth in thatdirection, but this goal cannot be attaineduntil we can improve our academic status.Several of our faculty members are pursuing graduate work toward doctorate degrees, but with limited salaries the program is retarded. Accreditation is notdependent upon a 500,000 endowment,but it is upon academic rating. The lawin Ohio requires that a college grantingdegrees on the undergraduate level musthave an endowment in the amount of 500,000 before they will be certified forteacher training. Our graduates have beencertified to teach in Michigan and inPennsylvania, and we believe that all ourstudents who do creditable work will findmany open doors awaiting them. However,we do want our constituency to know thefacts without exaggeration. God hasgiven us much, for which we are profoundly thankful, but we do have needswhich He must supply if this college is tofully meet the needs of our Baptist youngpeople. The final question which we askyou to consider is this WHAT ARE YOU WILLING TO DO TO MAKECEDARVILLE THIE COUEGII: YOUWANT IT TO l!IE'!'To operate a college economically weneed more students. You can help directthem this way. If we are to improve ourfacilities and our academic standing, wemust have your financial help. Smallgifts sent regularly from a large numberof people is more to be desired than largegifts from a few. Above all we need ahost of men and women upon whosehearts God can lay the 'burden of prayerfor His blessing upon this institution. Areyou willing to do what you can? Willyou help us build a stronger, better college - one that is fully prepared to meetthe need of our young people who wantthe advantage of a college education without the risk of losing their faith?COU.EGE BOOK STOREMiss Bernice Mick, manager of ourcollege book store reports that she hasbooks, plaques, Christmas cards and otheritems of interest for Christmas shoppers.Not only is our college family servedby this accomodation but a number of ourfriends from off the campus are sendingorders for various items.Churches, pastors and missionaries areregularly given 20% discount on orderswhich are placed with the book store.Frances Cooper and Loisanne Jeremiahare Miss Mick's student assistants in thisdepartment of college activity.A FUiURIE STUDENYPresident Jeremiahconducted a week ofBible c o n f e r e n c ewith the CalvaryBaptist Church ofSandusky, Ohio, November 3-10. Whilein Sandusky, he wasentertained in thehome of Rev. andMrs. Max Tucker.Brother Tucker hasbeen the pastor ofthe Sandusky churchfor the past four years. He graduatedfrom Cedarville College in 1953. It isencouraging to see how God has blessedthe Tuckers in this ministry for Christ.Here is a picture of Keith Tucker, afuture Cedarville College student. Hissmile indicates that he is happy about theprospects of college life! Of course, Keith,will encourage his five-month-old brother,Timmy, to follow suit.

HOW ONE CHURCH IS DOING ITIn a recent letter from Pastor GlennH. Davis of the Clintonville BaptistChurch, he tells how his congregation i,planning to furnish a room in the newdormitory at Cedarville.Pastor Davis said, "This is the questionwe asked of the people of ClintonvilleBaptist Church: 'Will you help Cedarville College furnish the rooms byfurnishing one room in the new dormitory?' We thank God their response waspeople to spend a day or so with ourstudents.DO YOU HAVE MONEY TO LOAN?The new dormitory will cost approximately 25,000 when completed. This doesnot include the cost of furnishing it.When we began the construction, weobtained a loan from the local bank tocover this building expense. Later on,however, it was suggested that some ofthe people in our churches may wish tolend the money to the college.To date ll,OOO has been loaned to usby our friends. We pay 5% interest andgive a cognovit noLe signed by the chairman and secretary of our board. If this money is contributed to thecollege by thirty-one churches or individuals over a two-year period, thefurnishings will be completely paid for.When you send your gift to the college,please be sure to specify that it is fordorm furniture.PROSPECTIVE STUDENTSWe are working on a plan for aProspective Students Day.
