The educationalinstitution has transformed from a vocational schoolto a trade technical institute, then a technical college,then a community college, then a state college and, in2008, to a university offering master’s degree programs.Today, UVU serves nearly 41,000 students acrossthe following eight colleges and schools: College ofEngineering and Technology, College of Health andPublic Service, College of Humanities and SocialSciences, College of Science, School of Education,School of the Arts, University College, and theWoodbury School of Business. COLLEGE OF ENGINEERINGAND TECHNOLOGYTHE CET MISSIONThe College of Engineering and Technology (CET)offers over 100 degrees and certificates in a variety ofprograms. These include architecture and engineeringdesign; aviation science; computer engineering;computer science; construction technologies;civil engineering; cyber security; digital media;electrical engineering; engineering and technologymanagement; engineering technologies; informationsystems; information technology; mechanicalengineering; software engineering; and transportationtechnologies.Accredited by the Accreditation Board forEngineering and Technology (ABET), CET is adynamic, award-winning college at UVU. Servingmore than 6,000 student majors, the college hasa combined enrollment of approximately 17,000students each semester. CET has 135 full-time facultyand employs a large pool of full-time and part-timestaff and adjunct faculty.Qualtrics co-founder Scott M. Smith and his wife,Karen Smith, pledged 25 million to help fund thenew engineering building. The new Scott M. SmithEngineering Building is anticipated to be completedby 2025, and the college will be renamed the SmithCollege of Engineering and Technology. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Earned doctorate in an engineering field Achieved rank of professor from a regionallyaccredited university Experience in higher education with a minimumof five years of successful administrative experienceat the level of department chair or above and/orfive years of related industrial experience at themanagement level Legally authorized to work in the U.S. Implements a sustainable, student-focused strategyin meeting essential and program learning outcomesutilizing CET’s resources, personnel, facilities, andprogramming. Astrid S. Tuminez, Ph.D.Utah Valley University PresidentDr. Astrid Tuminez was appointed the seventh president of UVU in 2018and is the institution’s first female president. She brings to UVU a broadand rich experience in academia, philanthropy, technology, and business.Born in a farming village in the Philippine province of Iloilo, she movedwith her parents and six siblings to the slums of Iloilo City when she wastwo years old, her parents seeking better educational opportunities fortheir children.Her pursuit of education eventually took her to the United Statesto Brigham Young University, where she graduated summa cum laudein 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in international relations and Russianliterature. She earned a master’s degree from Harvard University inSoviet Studies (1988) and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute ofTechnology in political science (1996).Before assuming her current position, Dr. Tuminez was Microsoft’sregional director for corporate, external, and legal affairs in SoutheastAsia. She is also the former vice dean of research at the Lee Kuan YewSchool of Public Policy, National University of Singapore; is a permanentmember of the Council on Foreign Relations; and is the author of RussianNationalism Since 1856: Ideology and the Making of Foreign Policy andmany other publications.F. Wayne Vaught, Ph.D.Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic AffairsDr. Wayne Vaught joined Utah Valley University on June 1, 2019. Priorto his appointment at UVU, Dr. Vaught had a 21-year career at theUniversity of Missouri-Kansas City, where he served as a faculty memberand then Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Prior to UMKC, hetaught at Allegheny University of the Health Sciences (which merged withDrexel University) and Georgetown College in Kentucky.Dr. Vaught received a doctorate in philosophy and bioethics from theUniversity of Tennessee, and he focused his research on ethical issuesin pediatric decision-making.
