New Patrol DeviceThere are “Pipes” and “Wands” and now ChekoneWired Time, Inc. of Kitchener, Ontario, Canada has developed a simple handheld device for remotepatrolling and recording activities. The handheld device connects to a powerful web application somanagers can track all of their workers simultaneously and see their actual location on a Googlemap as they move. Points along the way are captured via a bar code scanned by the handhelddevice, while GPS pings out the location. The entire system comes pre-configured and immediately ready for use out of the box. The sitemanager simply takes pre-defined stick-on bar codes, places them in the desired locations, andthe patrol is ready to go. As the officer scans a location, it can prompt him/her to report on the condition of thelocation. The location and status is immediately uploaded to the database so managers can see the patrol andall the detail in real time. The device also has approved phone calling, a panic button and lone worker tracking. The system was tested extensively by Randy Burnett at Wells Fargo Center in Seattle to ensure it had all ofthe features necessary for security guard activities at a typical ABM downtown customer site.
