Welcome fromthe PresidentThroughout our transi on from a small adult voca onalschool in the 1960s to today’s comprehensive postsecondary ins tu on, Aurora College’s mandate hasbeen to offer programs and courses that meet the needsof Northerners and the ever-changing northern labourmarket. Our programs have been designed specifically to meet theunique needs of Northerners and of the Northwest Territories (NWT) labour market. Interna onal students will pay anon-refundable tui on deposit rather than applica onfee. As well, the applica on process has opened earlierso that poten al students can know sooner whetherthey have been accepted, or if they need to meetaddi onal pre-requisites or requirements. For example, while your rent may be basedon 680/month, for the Fall term, September toDecember, you will be invoiced 2,720 on yourstudent account (i.e. 680/month x 4 months).The amount you will be invoiced will depend onyour monthly rate, whether laundry is included,and the length of your residency. You will still bepermitted to pay your rent monthly, howeveryour rent will be invoiced once per term.Some units include laundry and others have coinoperated laundry machines. If your unit includeslaundry, your rent will include either a 20/monthor 30/month amount for the cost of the laundry.The cost of coin-operated laundry machines isbased on a per load fee and varies in differentlocations. When you are notified about yourresidence placement, you will also be informedwhether laundry is or is not included.Rules and PoliciesOnly full-time Aurora College studentsare eligible for student housing, althoughexceptions may be made. A full-time student isa person enrolled in a post-secondary programtaking a minimum 60 percent of a 100 percentcourse load, or a person with a permanentdisability taking a minimum 40 percent ofa 100 percent course load. Residents, theirfamilies, and their guests are expected tofollow Aurora College bylaws and rules. Failureto follow the rules will result in a violationwarning and possible eviction. Please reviewPolicy D Student Affairs - D.05 Student Housingon our website.PriorityStudent housing is assigned to returning,out-of-town students who are enrolled inmulti-year programs (i.e. diploma or degreeprograms) first. After these returning studenthousing assignments are complete, othernew and returning housing applications areconsidered. An out-of-town applicant is anNWT resident who, at the time of application,is resident in a community located 40kilometres or more from the community wherethe person will be attending Aurora College.Please review the criteria and priorities forstudent housing assignments on the residencepage of our website. Only applications receivedby the priority deadline [March 31] will receiveconsideration for priority placement. HOW TO APPLYApplications for 2022-23 programs are openas of early November 2021. Completedapplications will be reviewed as quicklyas possible to provide timely responses tostudents. Applying to Aurora College formost programs is completed online throughthe MyAC Self-Service portal found on ourwebsite. Application deadline is June 30, 2022for most programs. These are reviewed on anongoing basis.Transfer credit is the awarding of course creditsearned at another post-secondary educationalinstitution for an equivalent course. If youhave completed the equivalent of an AuroraCollege course at another institution, you mayapply for transfer credit after you have beenaccepted to the College. Approval of transfercredits is at the discretion of the Registrar.Additional information on transfer credits canbe obtained from the program manager of theCollege program of interest.Students wishing to obtain transfer credits fromAurora College at post-secondary institutionsin Alberta should refer to the Alberta TransferGuide.
