Below are items that your Chamber continues to workon diligently that will help solidify the roll of Laughlin AirForce Base in our community through our partnerships.Direct Hiring Authority—Your Chamber & MAA hasfought for this policy since 2013. This means that instead of taking 6-8 months to hire much needed personnel that it now takes approximately 50 days.With the increase of undergraduate Pilot training increasing from 300 to 500 this DIRECT HIRING policywill allow us to fill much need MAINTAINERS as well asmany other support positions!With this increase in Pilot Production the Del Rio Community has to be able to provide housing. Your Chamber & MAA is reaching out to the community to helpresolve this issue.LAFB Drainage Project - The flooding of the flightline hasbeen an issue for over 40 years. Project 1 is completewith projects 2 and 3 pending.The Defense Control Center (DCC)- This project movedthe main gate away from the train tracks to the westentrance off Hwy. 277-South. Val Verde County in partnership with the City, was awarded a 4.5m Grant bythe State’s Texas Military Preparedness Commission onDecember 10, 2015. The TMPC grant was written inhouse by representatives from all of the above entitiesas well as Chamber and Military Affairs Association volunteers.Sun Shade Project— The City of Del Rio was awarded a 3.5m grant in March 2016 to construct metal sunshades to protect the T-6’s. DR Chamber, MAA, City ofDel Rio and Laughlin team wrote the grant.Military Affairs Association- Of utmost importance isthe support and protection of Laughlin Air Force Basewho employs approximately 24% of our Community’sLabor Force and affects our housing market by over35%. Your Del Rio Chamber and Military Affairs hasworked hand in hand with our City and County to makesure LAFB can complete its Mission of training the BESTPILOTS IN THE WORLD!
