We must increase the value of agriculture products andenhance the value of life in our rural communities. We must develop our state's food and fiber resources in a manner that willalways protect consumer health and safety, natural resources, property, and the environment.THE BOARDThe State Board of Agriculture consists of five members appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of the Senate.Four of such members shall be appointed from within and represent one of the four agricultural districts established. Thesefour members of the board shall be appointed for terms of four (4) years. One member shall be appointed from the stateat-large and shall serve a term coterminous with that of the Governor. The at-large member shall be the President of the StateBoard of Agriculture and shall serve at the pleasure of the Governor.DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITESThe Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food, and Forestry is responsible for the detection, eradication, and control oflivestock and poultry diseases and parasites; inspection of milk and milk byproducts from the farm through all phases ofproduction and for supervising sanitary practices in each phase of the process; continuous oversight of meat and poultryplants in the state by performing antemortem and postmortem inspections on every animal slaughtered; regulateOklahoma egg and poultry producers, dealers and retailers to insure the quality and safety of eggs, poultry and eggproducts; provide the citizens and landowners of Oklahoma with services through forest resource management andprotection, urban forestry, forest water quality and environmental education; test consumer products for quality andquantity of agricultural products; audit and investigate violations of the Oklahoma Agriculture Code; assist theOklahoma food and agricultural industry to produce, process and merchandise agricultural products both nationally andinternationally; assure that Oklahoma's water and environment are protected from possible animal waste contamination;and assist in controlling wildlife damage to agriculture, safeguarding human health and safety, and protecting naturalresources.STATUTORY REFERENCESProgram NameStatutory ReferenceAdministrative Services/InformationTechnologyOffice of General Counsel2 O.S. (39)MISSIONTo design and implement boll weevil eradication and post-eradication programs that are economical, producer friendly, andbeneficial to the State of Oklahoma.THE BOARDThe governing body of OBWEO is composed of a five member board of cotton growers, each of whom is elected from the fiveseparate districts established by the initial Board. "Eligible cotton grower" means any person actively engaged in the productionof cotton either currently or in any two (2) of the three (3) years immediately preceding the calling of an election or areferendum.DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITESThe function of The Oklahoma Boll Weevil Eradication Organization is to eradicate the boll weevil from Oklahomacotton in the most effective and efficient manner possible. By law, producer assessments fund the program. In previousyears, funding from the USDA and the State of Oklahoma has allowed the program to become a reality. The Commission consists of five members. The state is divided into five stateareas for the purpose of selecting Conservation Commission members, Members are appointed by the Governor subject toconfirmation by the Senate. Members serve a term of five years.DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITESThe Oklahoma Conservation Commission has the responsibility of providing assistance to the 87 conservation districts inOklahoma to foster a sense of care, wise use and best management of Oklahoma's renewable natural resources.
