From Our Pastor“Reminding Me of Him”Daniel 9:3-4 Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, andashes. 4 And I prayed to the LORD my God, and made confession,and said, “O Lord, great and awesome God, who keeps His covenant and mercy with those who love Him, and with those whokeep His commandments,In Daniel 9:2, Daniel became aware that the date for the captivity of Israel was at hand. Instead of just sitting on the promise, he decided to also participate in the outcome of the promise. The very dayhe read the promise, verse three says that he “set his face toward Godto make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth,and ashes.” Why on earth would Daniel feel the need to do such athing? If he knew the date of freedom was set, why did he decide thento pray and fast? The answer is simple. He wanted to remind himselfwhere he fit in God’s picture. He got busy worshipping God for twovery important reasons: 1- Worship reminds me of Who God is, and 2Worship reminds me of who I am.He wasn’t worshipping to try to persuade God, he was worshipping to persuade and remind himself that the God of the promise wasHis God. Worship always does that. It always reminds me that God isGod. It reminds me that since He is God, I don’t have to be. It remindsme that since He is deciding the important stuff of life, I don’t need todecide them. It reminds me that He is in control and it isn’t necessaryfor me to seek control.
