PrefaceWe are pleased to submit the 2009 Annual Institutional Profile for SussexCounty Community College.In keeping with the trends of recent years, the Institution has continued itsgrowth in the 2008-2009 academic year. From 2003 through 2008, SussexCounty Community College’s fall semester headcount has increased by 28.6percent.Throughout this sustained period of growth, it has been an active goal of theInstitution to keep the focus on the students that we are here to serve.During 2008, Sussex County Community College celebrated itsreaccreditation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education,affirming its success as an institution of higher education.Building on these successes, Sussex County Community College hascontinued in its quest to improve itself. It seeks to accomplish this throughthe continuous evaluation of its goals within the context of the needs of thestudents, the institution, and the larger community that it serves.At the core of this endeavor is the development of a new Sussex CountyCommunity College Strategic Plan. Through this process, we have revisedthe Institutional Mission Statement, identified Mission Principals andultimately developed a comprehensive Strategic Plan for the institution.Input was sought from all of its various constituencies to help to clarify theinstitution’s role in fulfilling the needs of both the students and the largercommunity.

Accreditation StatusII.A.1.Institutional AccreditationSussex County Community College is licensed by the State of New Jersey. It isaccredited by the Commission on Higher Education of the Middle States Association ofColleges and Secondary Schools. The college was initially awarded accreditation in1993. The college was visited again by the Middle States accreditation team five yearslater, in 1998. Following this visit the college was granted accreditation for the standardten year period. Sussex County Community College was granted reaccreditation by theMiddle States Commission on Higher Education again in 2008.II.A.2.Professional AccreditationThe Medical Assistant, Respiratory Therapy Program and the Surgical TechnologyPrograms in the Department of Department of Health Science at Sussex CountyCommunity College are accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied HealthEducation Programs (CAAHEP). The Medical Office Assistant Program in theDepartment of Department of Health Science is accredited by the American MedicalTechnologists (AMT). The Medical Administrative Assistant Program is approved by theNational Health Career Association. The Medical Coding and Billing Program isapproved by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA). TheEmergency Medical Technician course is approved by the New Jersey Department ofHealth and Senior Services Office of EMS. The Home Health Aide Training Course hasbeen approved by the New Jersey Board of Nursing.

Characteristics of Undergraduate StudentsII.C.1.Mean Math, Reading and Writing SAT ScoresSussex County Community College does not require students to take the SAT Exam foradmission.II.C.2.a.Basic Skills Placement Tests Administered At Sussex CountyCommunity CollegeAt Sussex County Community College Accuplacer Online is used to determineremediation need. There are four subtests administered through Accuplacer Online:Reading Comprehension, Sentence Skills, Arithmetic, and Elementary Algebra. Allstudents are required to take the basic skills placement test unless: they qualify forexemption based on their SAT scores, transfer credits, an approved basic skills test takenat another college or university, or, they have already earned a college degree. Studentstaking SCCC courses approved for personal enrichment or meeting a special programstandard or exception can also satisfy a waiver condition. In addition to the four BasicSkills sub-tests, students intending to take Pre-calculus and Calculus courses at SCCC arerequired to take an additional College Level Mathematics section of the Accuplacer testwhich is used to gauge readiness for these courses.Students who achieve a score of 530 or more in the Mathematics section of the SAT areexempt from the math subtest of the placement test.
