TRANSFER PATHWAY GUIDE2022-2023Associate of General Studies ToBachelor of Arts in English with Secondary EducationOverviewCompletion of the following curriculum will satisfy the requirements for the Associate of General Studies(AGS) degree at Ivy Tech Community College (ITCC) and leads to the Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English withSecondary Education degree at Northern Kentucky University (NKU).Applying to the IvyTech2NKU ProgramStudents can apply to participate in the pathway program by completing the online application on theNKU transfer webpage. Students must be enrolled in at least six credit hours at Ivy Tech, enrolled in anassociate degree program, plan to transfer to NKU, and maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA at IvyTech.Degree Requirements for Ivy TechTo earn a degree at Ivy Tech a student must successfully complete the required number of credits forthe degree, attain a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the required technical and general education courses, andcomplete at least 15 degree credits in the curriculum as a regular student of Ivy Tech.Admission Requirements for NKUStudents completing an associate degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher will be accepted intoNKU.In addition, students must meet the following requirements for admission into Education. (Courses inparentheses are Ivy Tech course equivalents) A minimum overall GPA of 2.75 A minimum grade of “B” in CMST 101 (COMM 101) and ENG 102 (ENGL 215) A minimum grade of “C” in all other pre-admission courses and required EDU and EDScourses, which include EDU 300 (PSYC 201), EDU 305 (EDU 101), EDU 313 (EDUC 201),1

EDU 316 (EDUC 255), and EDS 360 (EDUC 230).Meet the entrance exam requirement through an approved combination of passing scores onthe ACT and/or Praxis I Core Academic Skills for Educators examso ACT Comp. 22 -ORo Reading (ACT: 20 -or- Praxis I: 156) ando Eng./Writing (ACT: 18 -or- Praxis I: 162) ando Mathematics (ACT: 19 -or- Praxis I: 150)ACT scores must be less than 5 years old at time of admissions semesterPass criminal background check60 semester hours completedAn acceptable portfolioA completed application to the Teacher Education programA completed application to Northern Kentucky UniversityDegree Requirements for NKUTo earn a bachelor’s degree at NKU, students must complete a minimum of 120 credit hourswith at least 45 credit hours numbered 300 and above. In addition, at least 25% of the credithours required for the degree and the last 30 credit hours must be completed at NKU. Studentsmajoring in Education must maintain a GPA of 2.75 overall and in major courses and earn aminimum grade of C in all education courses. Students must meet the pre-requisites for eachcourse. Students wishing to be certified to teach English at the secondary level must completethe requirements for the B.A. in Secondary Education along with the requirements for a B.A. inEnglish. No minor is required for this major.2

Degree Requirements for Ivy Tech To earn a degree at Ivy Tech a student must successfully complete the required number of credits for the degree, attain a minimum GPA of 2.0 in the required technical and general education courses, and complete at least 15 degree credits in the curriculum as a regular student of Ivy Tech.
