How Hawkeye Transfers to DrakeEQUIVALENT: For courses from Hawkeye which have direct course equivalents at Drake,this agreement shows the Drake course with the course number in boldface.ELECTIVE: Students will be granted college transfer credit for courses in this category.However, these courses are not equivalent to any single Drake course. A course in thiscategory may be used to fulfil required or elective course requirements at the discretionof the Associate or Assistant Dean of the Drake College or School in which a student isenrolled.CAREER-TECH: A maximum of 16 semester hours of career-technical elective credit may be granted at thediscretion of the Associate or Assistant Dean of the Drake College or school in which the student isenrolled. Pharmacy and Health Science students can only transfer in 4 semester hours of career-technicalelective credit.NO CREDIT: Drake will not grant credit for these courses.Regardless into which category a course may be placed (equivalents or electives), the AcademicRepresentative of the Drake college or school to which you are granted admission will determine howeach transfer course meets specific requirements for the degree you are seeking.A maximum of 66 semester hours of transfer credit from two-year institutions will be accepted. TheAssociate or Assistant Dean of the Drake College or School in which a student is enrolled will determinehow each transferred course meets specific degree requirements.Areas of Inquiry (AOI)The courses outlined will count towards satisfying the Drake Curriculum Area of Inquiry (AOI)requirements for majors in all the colleges and schools at Drake University.Achievement guidelines are established in ten Areas of Inquiry (AOIs) that reflect the fundamentals DrakeCurriculum principles and emphasize responsible decision making and self-discipline. The approvedDrake Curriculum course list for current Drake students can be accessed online at www.drake.edu/dc/In some cases, a course may be approved for more than one AOI. For example, BUS 185 is approved forboth Critical Thinking and Values and Ethics AOIs. In those cases, the course may be applied in only onearea. These courses, however, may simultaneously count toward a specific college or majorrequirements. Students are strongly encouraged to keep course syllabi from transfer institutions so thata closer evaluation may be made in the event that a course may need to be re-evaluated for itsapplicability to the Drake Curriculum plan.The AOI abbreviations (i.e. “WRIT” or “CRIT”) are in the right column of the Course Equivalency Guide andin each AOI heading below.

All courses that fulfil this AOI will engage students to achieve basicscientific literacy; individual courses will pursue the additional outcomes as appropriate to their disciplinary or interdisciplinary focus.
