Her lifelongjourney has been working as acommunity organizer and social justiceactivist for more than 50 years.Among her many accolades, Huerta isa two time United States PresidentialAward Recipient. She received theMedal of Freedom Award fromPresident Obama in 2012, the highestcivilian award in the United States, andthe Eleanor D. Roosevelt Human RightsAward from President Clinton in 1998.She co founded the United FarmWorkers (UFW) with Cesar Chavezadvocating for farm workers in thiscountry. Huerta is a former UC Regentand has earned nine honorarydoctorates from universities throughoutthe United States. Her most recentrecognitions include her induction intothe U. S. Department of Labor Hall ofHonor. She was also the first Latinainducted into the National Women’sHall of Fame.As one of the most famous andcelebrated Latinas in the U.S., Huertahas been an advocate for socialjustice, women’s rights, reproductivefreedom and LGBT civil rights.
