MESSAGE FROM DR MARKUS LITZDIRECTOR, GOETHE-INSTITUT MALAYSIAWelcome to the 11th edition of the International Science FilmFestival in Malaysia. In 2020 the festival reached more than800.000 viewers in 28 countries in Southeast Asia, SouthAsia, Africa, Latin America and the Middle East. The outcomefurther strengthens its positions as the largest sciencefocussed film festival worldwide.The Goethe-Institut, which is the official German culturalinstitute, is delighted to be again one of the organizerstogether with its partners: the Ministry of Education,the Malaysian Nature Society, German-Malaysian Institute,Association of Science, Technology and Innovation, EcocentricTransitions, Women’s Aid Organisation and the GermanPartner School Initiative (PASCH) in Malaysia.Ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being at all agesis essential to sustainable development. Therefore, thisyears main theme is of outstanding importance for everyoneinvolved in this project.I would like to thank all parties and partners involved in thisproject, all schools and universities, as well as all volunteers.I hope that you will enjoy the selected films, online teachingsessions, quizzes and competitions. May the Science FilmFestival 2021 become another success!During the festival period from 1 October to 20 December2021 the films are available free of charge on VIMEO and canbe streamed non-commercially in schools, universities andother educational venues throughout the country. This is onlypossible through the coordinated efforts of all our partners.The world is facing a global health crisis unlike any other COVID-19 has destabilized the global economy and upendedthe lives of billions of people around the globe. In the contextand aftermath of the pandemic, health and mental well-beingare more important than ever. Many children and youths inparticular may be struggling, they may be worried aboutmaintaining their own wellbeing or want to better equipthemselves to help loved ones. JURY MALAYSIANARMAPresident of Malaysian German,Teacher‘s SocietyHAZNI YATIHead of Section of Computer& Information,German-Malaysian InstituteNarma is a German Language Teacher with over 30 yearsof experience. In 2018, she was awarded the ExcellentGerman Teacher Asia-Pacific, Australia and New ZealandAward for her contributions. Narma believes that toteach any language, it is important to have an extensiveunderstanding of science, humanity, culture and nature.This is so that she will be able to ensure that herstudents will be able to articulate these complex conceptsconfidently and fluently. Just like her students, media likemovies and short films play an important role in spreadingawareness and shaping the world.As a Head of Section of Computer & Information, Yatimanaged to coordinate large numbers of student final yearprojects in three different areas of Computer & Information(Network Security, Creative Multimedia and SoftwareTesting). Three of her student‘s final year projects inthe area of Network Security have been awarded as thebest final year project in 2011, 2014 and 2016. She is amultidisciplinary teacher who also manages and advisesthe GMI female futsal club. The team won Gold medals intwo female futsal tournaments. Due to her outstandingperformance, she has been awarded the MARA Icon Awardin 2016. These achievements have boosted her desire tocontinuously work as an outstanding leader, mentor andteacher.ALICIA LEECommunity Engagement Officer,Women‘s Aid OrganisationAlicia Lee is the Community Engagement Officer at Women’s Aid Organisation with abackground in psychology. Her journey with women’s rights advocacy began duringher undergraduate years, where she explored social science subjects in relation toviolence against women. JURY MALAYSIABAVITHRAGerman Language Teacher,Malaysian German Teacher‘sSocietyBhavithra is a German Language Teacher at SM SainsSeri Puteri, KL for almost 5 years. Currently pursuingher Masters in Educational Management at University ofMalaya. She also believes that every student should learnan extra foreign language which will help them shape abetter future. Education is made for all regardless ofages. Bhavithra wants to create a larger German speakingcommunity in the nation.EDAEnvironmental EducationDivision,Malaysian Nature SocietyEda is trained in the field of Bioinformatics. Her passionfor the natural environment grew while studying SeagrassEcology in Sarawak. It is also then, that she realized theimportance of Environmental Education to conserveMalaysia‘s natural heritage.In 2011, she joined the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS)and directly reports to the Environmental EducationDivision. Since then, she has been involved in variousEnvironmental Education projects with the Society.Currently, she is managing a number of EE projectsinvolving water conservation, marine conservation as wellas plastic waste management.
