Colonial Hills CourierMarch 2020 - A PUBLICATION OF THE COLONIAL HILLS CIVIC ASSOCIATION (CHCA)As we move into spring and summer the CHCA is gearing up for 2 of our biggest events, the Easter Egg Huntand the 4th of July! Be sure to check Facebook and our website, colonialhills.us for up to date information. If you haven’t visited our website lately, take a look. Our webmaster, Will Pearce has been working hard tomake the site user friendly while still providing up to date content among other fun additions!Speaking of our big events, we need some help. We are currently looking for a 4th of July co-chair andchair for the Children’s Holiday Party in December. These events are in danger of being cancelled if wecannot find volunteers. The 4th of July co-chair will work with one of our co-chairs from last year to planactivities (most of which remains the same as last year), order supplies, promotion of the event, set up andday of management. Honestly, this event runs like a well-oiled machine thanks to the volunteers who havebeen so organized in the past. The biggest need is for this person to be at the event on the 4th to makesure everything is running smoothly. The Children’s Holiday Party is also a well-oiled machine! Our outgoingchair will pass along all of the details on how this event works. Both events are fun and always exciting tobe a part of. Please reach out to me on Facebook or at Lindholmfamily653@gmail.com with any questions.Attention high school seniors! The CHCA scholarship application is due to us by April 1st. Please see ourwebsite or your school guidance department for more information.I’d like to take this opportunity to remind you of a few safety and courtesy duties for everyone in theneighborhood. If it snows, please shovel your sidewalk in a timely manner. If you are unable to get out, wehave many neighborhood kids who would love to help you! If you are out walking, running, biking or doinganything outside in the dark, please wear reflective gear so that you can be seen. Also remind your childrenof this important safety measure!See you around!Emma McCandlish LindholmCHCA President

FAMILY MENTOR FOUNDATIONThe Family Mentor Foundation is a weekend food program in Franklin County aimed at bridging the gapbetween the food children receive at school during the week, and the food insecurity their family facesover the weekend. In Franklin County 38% of children lack enough food daily. To lessen their hunger, FamilyMentor Foundation was started to provide weekend food, a Buddy Box, to children in need every Fridayduring the school year. For the 2019-20 academic year, Family Mentor Foundation is feeding 1,500 kids aweek in Worthington, Columbus and South-Western City School Districts. Within Worthington, we serve380 children in 14 schools (Sutter Park Preschool, most elementary schools and all middle schools), andthrough partnership with Sacred Space Church, we provide weekend food to 30 kids locally at Colonial HillElementary.BEYOND MEETING THEBASIC NEED OF HUNGERFOR THESE CHILDREN,OUR PROGRAM REDUCESWEEKEND STRESS FORCHILDREN WHO AREWORRIED ABOUT WHATTHEY WILL EAT WHILEAWAY FROM SCHOOL.Buddy Boxes are distributed on Fridays by ourpartners within the schools and contain 4 mealsfor the weekend: 2 breakfasts and 2 lunches. Thefood items are shelf-stable, individually wrapped, nutritious, and easy for a child to open, with little tono preparation needed. Beyond meeting the basicneed of hunger for these children, our Programreduces weekend stress for children who are worriedabout what they will eat while away from school.Furthermore, it reduces the stress on parents, andthe teachers and school staff caring for the everyneed of their students. We are excited to have Colonial Hills neighborsjoin us at our warehouse to pack Buddy Boxes onSunday, August 2nd, 2020 from 1-3pm! We will bebuilding boxes, unpackaging food and filling boxes for the upcoming school year. All ages and abilitieswelcome- there is a job for everyone! We are located at 460 Schrock Road, Suite E (between Huntley andProprietor). Visit our Facebook page or website for more information www.familymentorfoundation.orgJohn S. Specifically, trustees from districts 34 and40 will now have 11 more house to deliver Couriers and luminaries to. When we added Southington officiallyto the CHCA a few years ago, the connector street from Park Blvd was left out (Bromley) and last year whenwe add Riverglen last year, I forgot Granby. On 3/10, the board voted to formally add both streets to theCHCA. Welcome to them all! What does this mean for them? No negatives, and on the positive side, they get the Courier, luminary kits, can participate in the various decorating contests and of course, any graduation seniors in those houses areeligible for the CHCA scholarship. We anticipate giving out 4,000 this year and growing it up for 5,000by next year, no small potatoes!-Dave, CHCA TreasurerCH Courier 5
