TV ReceptionChannels are received over the air using an aerial or dish on your buildingTelevision broadcasts are received using a standard TV aerial or satellite dish located on the roof. It doesnot use your internet connection so does not consume bandwidth nor does it pose a security risk. Many buildings already have aerials and dishes installed for existingoffices, communal areas or other tenants. If your building has existing TVs, a short site survey can establish ifthe feeds can be split and shared for an IPTV system.Authorised Encoded Media partners can advise on your aerial andsatellite requirements, and can arrange installation where required. Our installers have experience of a wide range of building types, from listed buildings to skyscrapers, and can assist with questionsregarding landlord and planningpermission.Small dish and TV aerialExperienced installersBuilding wide TV distributionPage 4On average, installation itselftakes half a day or less.

Channel DistributionTV Server distributes television channels on your networkThe feeds from the roof are connected to the TV Server equipment, typically located in your comms room.TV Server is a range of hardwareappliances that deliver livechannels across your current IPnetwork in full HD quality.Stream multiple channels from amix of different sources, such asFreeview and Freesat.Model shown: TV Server 4/DVBS2TV channels for an IPTV system have traditionally been received by domestic satellite receivers, decodedand then re-encoded with greatly reduced picture quality.TV Server is different. With satellite and TV aerial feeds connecting directly to the appliance, the serverkeeps channels in their original digital format without decoding and re-encoding them. This results inbroadcast image quality, increased reliability, and more control of the channels on your network.Satellite DishTV Server 4/DVBS2NetworkDVB-S2TV AerialTV Server 4/DVBT2NetworkDVB-T2Page 5

Channel ViewingOnce channels have been received by a TV Server, they are made available to any authorised user on thenetwork and can be received in a number of ways.On computer desktopsEncoded Media’s desktop player allows authorised users toview channels they are permitted to watch on their computerscreen. The player has been designed to be familiar and easy touse, and works on all versions of Windows from XP onward. It can be shrunk into a corner so as not to intrude on otherapplications or run full screen. On mobile devicesLive television channels can also be viewed on smartphonesand tablets. TV Server can create a number of differentquality streams to deliver the most appropriate experiencefor mobile and remote users both inside and outside yourbuilding. On dedicated screensShared areas of the building, such as reception orrestaurants, can display television channels by usingEncoded Media’s range of IPTV set-top boxes. These small network devices enable standalone screens toreceive the channels over the network without a PC. The boxes can be controlled locally with an infra redremote control, or centrally with Encoded Media’s IPTV Managers software, which allows administrators tochange channel, volume, or even switch TVs on or off from anywhere on the network.Page 6

Channel ViewingOn your digital signageMany digital signage systems are able to receive the IPTV streams directly from the network, and are ableto incorporate live TV channels as part of the signage display. The channels can be scheduled to display full screen at certain times, mimicking the behaviour of atelevision, or as part of a signage zone to help drawattention to other elements on the page.Used in this manner, TV can become a valuablemarketing tool for your organisation.Because it uses the network, signage players do notneed individual TV cables or additional tuner hardwareto display TV.If your organisation has multiple buildings, you nolonger need to install separate aerials, dishes andcabling at each site.Your network can carry many channels at once, witheach screen able to display any of the TV streamsfrom the list of authorised channels.TelevisionAerialSatelliteDishEncoded Media TV ServerScreensScreensNetworkPage 7
