TRÍPTIC DE MOSSÈN CINTO:Translations1.The Sacred Harp The divine harp of David hangs from a tree inZion. Although it is made of gold and strung with silver strings, ithas not sounded a song of love for a long time; instead, it plays amournful lament of sorrow and regret. As it plays, the heavensopen, the door to hell closes, and earth is bound to God’s spirit. With the final note, the day ends and even the stones break withsadness. The Virgin Mary listens and pleads: “Angels of Heaven, take the Harp down; it hangs so high that I cannot reach it. Pleaselower it down to me so that I can play it, yet take care that it is notscratched as it passes through the branches. Place it on my bosomso that I can play it. If it has lost its sound, I will return it. If not, Iwill die embracing my golden Harp that once rejoiced the world withits music.”2.The Violin of St. Francis At the manger in Greece, at the Nativityin the presence of the Holy Child, many instruments play — thebagpipe, the tambourine, the flute, and piccolos. The littleshepherd, dear Francis, wishes to take part, but he has neithertriangle nor clarinet, neither clarinet nor mandolin. The Saint picksup two sticks from the path, places one of them on his shoulder likea violin, and passes the other over it like a bow of finest gold. Thesticks are only ash, but from his holy hands, great music surgesforth. Will not music always flow from the hands of an Angel?3.St. Francis and the Cicada The monastery is so small that asingle vine engarlands it. One day, as the sun heated the earth atmidday, a cicada sang: Zigaluzet. Saint Francis entreated it:“Come, come, my dear sister; come and sing a song praising thegood Lord that created you.” Zigaluzet. The cicada didn’t run away, but stood on her tiptoes, and lustily sang a song celebrating thesummer: Zigaluzet. Every morning for a week, she sang her songagain and again. When the week had passed, Francis lauded her, saying: (Zigaluzet) “Cicada, good cicada, for a week you havestayed here to sing; you may now play the Lord’s guitar!” Zigaluzet.
