Recovery is expected to remainmoderate. The outlook presents several factorsthat continue to support economic growth in theprovince, such as continued capital spending oninfrastructure by the public sector.Alberta’s seasonally adjustedunemployment rate is down from last year.7.8%July 20176.7%July 2018DID YOUR COMPANY PARTICIPATE?We encourage all Permit Holders to participate in thesalary survey. It’s free, and the more Permit Holderssurveyed, the more robust and representative theresults. Please contact us at salarysurvey@apega.ca toensure that we send your company the 2019 surveyparticipation package next April. In Calculating Years of Experience Since Graduation, it isassumed that individuals enter the workforce immediatelyupon graduation from achieving their last degree. Thismay not necessarily be the case for all individuals, but it isconsidered the norm from a surveying perspective.Typically, progression to the next responsibility level isalso dependent on an individual’s years of experience in theworkforce. As more in-depth knowledge and specializationsare gained over time, an individual’s overall level ofcontribution and responsibility within a company progressesas well. The highest average base salary is not necessarily solelyattributed to the individuals with the most years of experience.Generally, it is more directly related to the individual’s levelof expertise and specialization, performance, and overallcontribution within a company.Increases are represented in a number of reportinglevels, but they were minor. Generally speaking, salariesremained stable in 2018.See graphs on following pages.WANT MORE?This is a summary version only ofthe Value of Professional Services. Please obtain your own full versionfor more detailed standard surveyresults, plus information on: Benefits and Additional CashCompensation plans Additional Paid and Unpaid Days Engineering Disciplines Flexible Work Arrangements Years of Experience Overtime Policies Turnover Contract Employee Pay Rates Vacation Entitlement Gender Personal Sick Days Location APEGA License Company Size Co-op Student SalariesThe full version of the Valueof Professional Services can bepreordered at apega.ca.FALL 2018 PEG 43
