WELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENTWelcome to the campus of Faulkner University for the 2020Faulkner Lectures. Since 1942 this institution has been deeplycommitted to biblical teaching and faithful living. The Bible lectures area significant event for Christian scholarship, inspiration, and worship.I love this year’s theme that pushes us to consider the Old Testamentprophets. This is a much overlooked section of Scripture. At firstglance, the context of the ancient text seems to be in deep contrast tocontemporary life, yet the prophetic teachings from these godly menspeak a powerful, relevant message to the church of 2020. I am thankful for Dr. Scott Gleavesand Dr. David Hester for assembling a tremendous lineup of dynamic presenters this year. I feelconfident that we will be blessed, challenged, and inspired after participating in this outstandingevent.Thank you for your support of this great ministry. We covet your prayers as we attempt to be arelevant and impactful Christ-centered university in the 21st century. We aspire to weave faiththroughout this institution by helping students forge a Christian worldview. We endeavor toprepare them for a life of service that will be deeply impactful to the kingdom of God.Michael D. Williams, EdDPresidentWELCOME MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTORThe theme of the 2020 Faulkner Lectures expresses an imperativewhich needs to be heeded today: “Hearing God’s Voice Throughthe Prophets.” When one examines the writings about and by theprophets, he recognizes the society they lived in. It is remarkably like21st century America. The problems they faced, the philosophies theyopposed, the people they addressed—all are very similar to our times. We will explore our theme with a lineup of speakers who willthoroughly address each topic. The Friends of the Restoration lectures,a regular part of our schedule, will take place on Monday afternoon. The speakers will examinethe lives of three great preachers: J. W. McGarvey, T. B. Larimore, and Gus Nichols. The studentlectures on Wednesday afternoon will showcase several of our talented students as they addresstopics related to our theme.God’s word is as relevant and impactful today as it was in the days of Elijah, Isaiah, andJeremiah. It is our hope that the 2020 Faulkner Lectures will be a source of positiveencouragement to that end. Welcome to our campus. We hope that you will enjoy your stay.David W. Hester, PhDDirector, Faulkner Lectures22
