I cannot be more proud of the work eachand every one of you have done over the past several years to help us reach this designation. It is truly an honorto be named among the best hospitals in the world for nursing care. Elaine Hazelton’soutstanding delivery of patient- and family-centered carefamily established this award in 2009 towith compassion and dignity. TRANSFORMATIONAL LEADERSHIPBrigham And Women’s Faulkner Hospital Nurse Leaders Enhance Their SkillsAt ONL Leadership AcademyThe Organization of Nurse Leaders (ONL) Leadership Academyis a two-month, multifaceted, executive-style program, designedusing the ONL Leadership Development Model. Its purpose isto develop and continuously expand the knowledge, practiceand character of nursing leadership for the benefit of patients,the nursing profession and the organizations the ONL servesthroughout its five member states of Massachusetts, RhodeIsland, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Vermont.Among the participants in the Spring 2019 program were threerepresentatives from Brigham and Women’s Faulkner Hospital:6 South Nurse Director Allison Bernard, PhDc, DNP, RN, 6 NorthClinical Leader Jessica Ollis, BSN, RN, and 7 North Clinical LeaderJacqueline DeJean, BSN, RN.The program consisted of four modules spread out over thecourse of the two months: The Self, The Leader: Organization,The Leader: People and Participant Presentations andContemporary Topics in Nursing Leadership. Participantsfocus on a project with which they are engaged at their homeinstitution. It is that project that is presented during the fourthmodule. They also write a structured abstract for their project.Bernard’s project, titled “Patient Care Assistant (PCA)Perceptions of Patient Assignment Based on Acuity,” aims tomake assignments equitable among the PCA staff.
