Diversity StatementDiversity is a core value at NHTI. Our commitment to diversity enriches everyoneby exposing us to a range of ways to understand and engage with the world, develop respect, identify challenges, and discover, define, and deliver solutions.NHTI actively works to eliminate barriers created by systemic discrimination.Diversity may include, but is not limited to, race, ethnicity, culture, religion, language, socioeconomic status, national origin, citizenship, gender, sexualorientation, age, and disability.Nondiscrimination StatementNHTI – Concord’s Community College does not discriminate in its programsand activities on the basis of age, color, gender expression/identity, geneticinformation, marital status, national origin, participation in lawful off-campusactivity, physical or mental disability, pregnancy, public assistance status, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, spousal relationship to current employee, orveteran status, as applicable. Direct inquiries to: Title IX/ADA Coordinator,31 College Drive, 603-230-4001, NHTIinfo@NHTI.edu.This Program Is Not an Official Graduation List. While every effort is made to ensure accuracy in this commencement program, printing deadlines may result in omission of some names and use of names ofpersons not completing graduation requirements as intended. This printedprogram should not be used to determine a student’s academic or degree status. The college’s official registry for conferral of degrees is the student’s permanentacademic record kept by the Registrar’s Office.

Land StewardshipThis event is sponsored by a public community college located on N’dakinna, which is the traditional ancestral homeland of the Abenaki, Pennacook, andWabanaki peoples past and present. We acknowledge and honor with gratitudethe land and waterways and the Alnobak (people) who have stewarded N’dakinnathroughout the generations.Academic RegaliaThe academic outfit worn during commencement ceremonies originated in theuniversities of Europe in the Middle Ages when it was customary for scholars andclerics to dwell and learn in unheated buildings; thus, they wore a warm gownand hood for comfort. Until after the Civil War, students at most Americanuniversities chose to wear similar robes in this style while in residence. In 1894,the American Intercollegiate Commission standardized the robes’ design: Associate robes are black.Bachelor’s gowns have long, pointed sleeves.Master’s gowns have long, closed sleeves.Doctor’s gowns have bell-shaped sleeves with three bands of velvet.Similarly, the length of the hoods varies by degree. The color inside the hoodidentifies the university that awarded the degree, and the hood’s border indicatesthe academic discipline in which the degree was earned.Presidential MedallionDr. Mark Rubinstein wears the college’s presidential medallion, which symbolizes hisresponsibilities. It is conferred by the CCSNH chancellor and board of trustees, fromwhich his legal authority derives, and by the college community, which accentuatesthat his moral authority and ability to lead arise from the people he leads. The presidential emblem of the “Chain of Office” incorporates NHTI’s official seal, suspended by the names of all previous presidents of the college and their datesin office. It is emblazoned with the college motto, “We are all teachers. We are alllearners.”The medallion remains with the president during his tenure in office. When it ispassed down to his successor, his name will become a new link in the chain. In thisway, the college binds past, present, and future.NHTI – Concord’s Community College www.NHTI.edu 603-230-400031 College Drive, Concord, N.H. 03301
