Page 6High NotesThe Giving Tree and Ste. Croix Parish, HaitiWe continue our annual fundraising event in support of our partner parish and school, Ste. Croix in Léogâne, Haiti.Last year this fundraiser raised almost 9,000! With your help we hope to raise a similar amount. This year we are focused on supporting 2 major areas: music program scholarshipsOur vision is to build on the music program toprovide a comprehensive music learningenvironment by fully funding salaries for musicteachers and purchasing additional musicalinstruments and equipment. Why do we fund amusic program? There are no other musicprograms or music teachers in the region aroundLéogâne. Acquiring basic musical abilityrepresents a potential job with opportunities towork in a music band, called a “fanfare” in Haiti, infuneral processions, or to accompany churchservices. More importantly: the students love it,the teachers are thrilled with it, and the Rev.Sonley (himself a musician) would like to continueto inspire the school children with the joy ofmusic.Secondly, we would like to increase the number ofsponsored student scholarships. Generous Emmanuel parishioners currently sponsor 9 scholarships maybe wecould sponsor 10 scholarships? You can “Sponsor a Child” with a full 1-year scholarship, which covers full tuition, school uniforms, school lunches, and needed supplies. The goal is to connect a donor from Emmanuel to a specificchild; donors receive a photograph and short biography and have an opportunity to continue sponsoring that samechild for multiple years. The need is great for those families that have no financial resources, but have children whoare qualified and desire to attend Ste. Croix school.(Continued on page 7)
