FRONT SEATSFront power seat adjustmentOperating tips:. The power seat motor has an auto-resetoverload protection circuit. If the motorstops during operation, wait 30 seconds, then reactivate the switch. Do not operate the power seat switchfor a long period of time when theengine is off. This will discharge thebattery.See “Automatic drive positioner” in the “3.Pre-driving checks and adjustments” section for the seat position memory function.SSS1051Forward and backward:1 forward or backwardMoving the switch *will slide the seat forward or backward tothe desired position.the seatback can be reclined to allowoccupants to rest when the vehicle isparked.Reclining:2 backward untilMove the recline switch *the desired angle is obtained. To bring theseatback forward again, move the switch2 forward.*The reclining feature allows adjustment ofthe seatback for occupants of differentsizes for added comfort and to help obtainproper seat belt fit. If thehead restraint was removed, reinstall andproperly adjust the head restraint before anoccupant uses the seating position. Failureto follow these instructions can reduce theeffectiveness of the head restraints. The movement of the headrestraint helps support the occupant’shead by reducing its backward movementand helping absorb some of the forces thatmay lead to whiplash-type injuries.2. Push and hold the lock knob and pushthe head restraint down.3. Properly adjust the head restraintbefore an occupant uses the seatingposition.Active Head Restraints are effective forcollisions at low to medium speeds inwhich it is said that whiplash-type injuryoccurs most.Active Head Restraints operate only inSafety — Seats, seat belts and supplemental restraint system1-7

certain rear-end collisions. After the collision, the head restraints return to theiroriginal positions.Adjust the Active Head Restraints properlyas described earlier in this section.ADJUSTABLE HEADRESTSWARNINGThe adjustable headrests supplement theother vehicle safety systems. They mayprovide additional protection against injuryin certain rear end collisions. Adjust theheadrest properly, as specified in thissection. Check the adjustment after someone else uses the seat. Do not attachanything to the adjustable headrest stalksor remove the adjustable headrest. Do notuse the seat if the adjustable headrest hasbeen removed. If the adjustable headrestwas removed, reinstall and properly adjustthe headrest before an occupant uses theseating position. Failure to follow theseinstructions can reduce the effectiveness ofthe adjustable headrests.
