Style GuideCountry of Origin LabellingInformation StandardNew Country of OriginLabelling (CoOL) requirementsfor food offered for sale inAustralia were introduced bythe Australian Governmentin 2016.The Country of Origin Labelling InformationStandard governs country of origin labellingfor food sold in Australia.The Information Standard is available atbusiness.gov.au and there are different labelsdepending on where the food was grown,produced, made or packaged.The Information Standard outlines foods thatare defined as non-priority foods.New labels are not mandatory for non-priorityfoods but may be used voluntarily.All other foods must comply with the newlabelling requirements.Style GuideThis Style Guide shows how the new countryof origin labels should look and be used.The Style Guide is not a substitution for therequirements outlined in the Information Standard.The CoOL Online Tool will help you identify anddownload the appropriate label for your food product.The Online Tool is available at business.gov.auCOUNTRY OF ORIGIN FOOD LABELLING STYLE GUIDE2

LabelsThere are two types of new country of origin labels;a standard mark and a country of origin statement.Artwork is available for download at business.gov.au1. Standard markStandard mark labels can be two or threecomponent labels.Three component labelTHREECOMPONENTLABELThree component labels are for products thatwere grown, produced or made in Australia.1. T he kangaroo in a triangle logo indicates theproduct was grown, produced or made in Australia.2. The bar chart indicates the percentage of Australianingredients. Bar charts have 20% incrementalmarkings and generally filled in 10% increments.3. The explanatory text has two parts: s tates if a food was grown, produced ormade in Australia andLOGOBAR CHARTEXPLANATORYTEXT states the percentage of Australian ingredientsThe bar chart and explanatory text used will dependon the percentage of Australian ingredients claimbeing made. Label coloursLabels can be: in green, gold and black combination in monochrome w ith a transparent background colour providingthere is sufficient contrast and legibility.COLOURIt is recommended the green, gold and blackcombination be used where possible. The coloursare Pantone 341 Green, Pantone 137 Gold and100% K Black.The CoOL Online Tool generates vector based PDFand PNG files for download. The PDF version can beused for all monochrome, reverse, spot colour and fullprocess printing.The PNG version is suitable for web, screen, email andinsertion into Word documents. The PNG file can beconverted for use in print applications but may resultin quality loss.MONOPrinting applications –CMYK (PDF) and RGB (PNG)The CMYK (PDF) file should be used for all four colourprocess or digital printing applications.
