ITHACAJenniferCOLLEGEPotter, Head CoachJennifer Potter is in her sixth year as Ithaca’shead coach. Potter, an all-American sprinterat Ithaca, has led the Bombers to four statetitles. Since becoming head coach in 2003, shehas led the team to eight Empire 8 titles in 10total indoor and outdoor seasons. She has alsobeen named the conference’s Coach of the Yearfour times each in both seasons. At Ithaca, she hastwice been named United States Track CoachesAssociation (USTCA) Atlantic Region Coach ofthe Year. The Bombers have been been namedAcademic All-Americans after every semestersince 2004.Potter, who has served on the NCAA Division III Men’s and Women’sTrack & Field Comittee since August 2006, spent four years at Cortlandas the head women’s track and field coach, as well as coaching sprintersand hurdlers as an assistant coach with the men’s program. She led theRed Dragons to three indoor and three outdoor conference championships.Potter was named USTCA Atlantic Region Coach of the Year three timesin indoor track and field and twice in outdoor track and field. She was theState University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Coach ofthe Year three times.Her coaching background also includes a year as an assistant coachwith the women’s cross country and track and field teams at Division ICentral Michigan, four years as head cross country and track and fieldcoach at Hartwick and two years as a graduate assistant coach with thecross country and track and field programs at Division I Marshall. In hercareer, Potter has coached 74 national qualifiers and 46 all-Americans(including a national champion high jumper) as well as 36 members of theUSTCA all-academic team.She is a Level I USATF instructor and holds USATF Level II certification as a sprints, hurdles, relays and jumps coach. Potter served on the 2004Olympic trials field staff.Potter graduated from Ithaca in 1992 with a degree in physical education.She was a four-year letter winner with the Bomber track and field team,earning all-America honors in the 1,600-meter relay at the 1991 NCAAoutdoor championships. ITHACA COLLEGEAssistant CoachesMEGAN COXENCoxen is in her first year as a graduate assistantcoach. She is a graduate of Glenville State College ,where she primarily competed in the hurdles. Coxenis pursuing a masters in sports psychology.JOE GOODSPEEDGoodspeed is in his second year coaching at Ithaca.A graduate of Geneseo, he was a five-time nationalqualifier during his career and earned all-Americahonors twice in the high jump. As a senior, he qualified for the NCAA championships in the high jump,triple jump and long jump.JENNIFER McDONNELLA graduate of Hartwick, McDonnell is in her secondyear with the Bomber staff. She won a state title in thediscus in 2005 and qualified for the NYSCTC andECAC championships in each of her four years ofcompetition. McDonnell earned a bachelor’s degreein biology.Matt SchefflerScheffler is in his third season with the Bombers’coaching staff working with the pole vaulters. Heset the school indoor and outdoor records in thepole vault while a member of the track & field teamat Brockport. He is currently an adapted physicaleducation teacher at Lansing High School and isthe head coach of the Lions track & field teams.Scheffler graduated from Brockport in 2004 witha bachelor’s degree in physical education and is currently pursuing hismaster’s degree in athletic administration at Brockport.Mary WallenbeckWallenbeck is in her eighth season with thetrack & field program. She works primarily with the long jumpers and triple jumpers. She graduated from Ithaca, where shewas a member of the track & field andvolleyball teams. She spent eight seasons as a varsity track & field coach at Spencer Van Etten HighSchool. Wallenbeck is also an assistant coach forthe volleyball team,. Her father is Ithaca CollegeHall of Famer and current women’s cross country and assistant track andfield coach William Ware.Women’s Track and Field 2008-093

ITHACA COLLEGEBILL WareWare works primarily with the distance runners. Hehas coached the women’s cross country team for 21seasons, leading the Bombers to the NCAA championships on 16 occasions, including an 23rd placefinish this past season. Ware has been named theEmpire 8 coach of the year in cross country in eachof the past six seasons as the Bombers captured theconference’s only six championships. Ware’s otherresponsibilities at Ithaca have included a 16-yearstint as men’s swimming and diving coach, nine seasons as the men’s crosscountry coach, one season as women’s swimming and diving coach andmen’s lacrosse coaching duties from 1967 to 1977.ANDREW WEISHAARWeishaar, a 1999 Ithaca graduate, is in his secondyear on the coaching staff at his alma mater. Hisexperience includes stints as head cross country andtrack & field coach at Alfred and head cross countrycoach at Rensselaer and assistant with both programsat Northern Arizona. An eight-time state medalist asa Bomber, Weishaar is a USATF Level I certifiedcoach. 2008-09 OutlookITHACA COLLEGEThe Bombers enter the season looking to repeat as Empire 8 Championsduring both the indoor and outdoor seasons. The team will also beaiming to improve on their finishes at the New York State CollegiateTrack Conference (NYSCTC) and the Eastern College Athletic Conference(ECAC) championships. Ithaca will return 25 letter winners from lat year’ssquad.2007-2008 RECAP: Ithaca recaptured both Empire 8 crowns, and hasnow won four of the first five conference titles in both the indoor and outdoorseasons. Indoors, the Bombers placed sixth at the NYSCTC Championshipsand 41st at the ECAC meet. Theyimproved their finish at both meetsin the spring, placing fifth and 10th,respectively. Freshman MarciaMcCord qualified for the NCAAChampionships during both seasons,and became the program’s 38th allAmerican with a fifth-place finishin the 400-meter dash at the outdoornational championship.KEY LOSSES: The Bombersgraduated five seniors from lastyear’s team, including school-recordholders Leigh Klumpp and AlisonSpivak. Klumpp was a part of threerelay teams that set school recordsin 2008, while Spivak set a newrecord in the outdoor pole vault. TheBombers also lose a trio of distancecontributors from last year’s teamin Courtney Gallagher, CaitlinCatella, and Audrey Harkness.SPRINTS: In addition to herAll-America honors, McCord brokefour school records in individual sprint events, was twice named the Empire8 Track Athlete of the Year and Rookie of the Year, and won two statechampionships. Senior Diamondo Stratakos and McCord were both partof an 800-meter relay team that set school records in both the indoor andoutdoor seasons. Senior Lizzie Bronson was a member of the Empire 8champion distance medley relay team. Other key returners in the sprintsinclude sophomores Emily Ondrejka and Lindsay Harris. Both werea part of Ithaca’s indoor Empire 8-champion 1,600-meter relay team.Incoming freshmen Rebecca Coffman and Hannah Evans will also beexpected to contribute.HURDLES: Senior Hannah Jacobsen was runner-up in the 55-meterhurdles at the Empire 8 Indoor Championship. Stratakos placed in both the100- and 400-meter hurdles at the Empire 8 Outdoor Championship, andplaced in the 55-meter hurdles at the conference indoor meet. SophomoreKristen DeStefano placed in the 100-meter hurdles and 55-meter hurdles.Senior Michele McManus will also be returning. ITHACA COLLEGEMIDDLE DISTANCE: Junior Sarah Moskey earned all-NYSCTChonors last year in the 1,000-meter run, finishing in third at the state meet.Sophomore Emily Moran was part of the 1,600 meter relay that tookfourth place at the state meet in the outdoor season last year and should alsocontribute to the Bomber’s success this year, as should fellow sophomoreDanielle Sisti, a two-time NYSCTC qualifier as a freshman. Junior MelanieMcCormick has earned all-state and all-region honors in cross-country thepast three seasons and will return to the track after spending last year abroad.Freshmen Kristen Miga and Heidi Baumbach will also contribute in themiddle distance events.DISTANCE: Junior Amanda Boccio was an all-state performer in the5,000-meter run during both seasons. Sophomore Catherine Ortiz wasEmpire 8 champion in the 3,000 meter steeplechase and also was namedto the all-NYSCTC team in the event. Juniors Bridget Hastings and LizDeLong also return to the Bombers squad. DeLong competed in the CrossCountry National Championship in the fall. Freshmen Molly Quinn andMolly Brown will lead the incoming group of new distance runners.JUMPS: McCord set the school indoor triple jump record in 2008. Shewas the winner of the long and triple jumps at both Empire 8 Championships,and was named the conference’s Field Athlete of the Year for the outdoorseason. Senior Alison Siderko is the Bombers’ top returning high jumper;she repeated as indoor and outdoor Empire 8 champion in the event in2008. Junior Sarah Bennett was a two-time Empire 8 runner-up, finishingsecond in the indoor triple jump and outdoor long jump. Freshmen Evans,Katherine Bowen, Emma Dewart, and Marshay Zamlowki will be newadditions to the jumping squad.POLE VAULT: The Bombers took the top five spots in the polevault at the Empire 8 Indoor Championships, with junior Naomi Markfinishing first, DeStefano third and Jacobsen fourth. Mark was alsoconference champion during the outdoor season. DeStefano set the Ithacaindoor school record in the event at the ECAC Championships. FreshmenJulie Orlando and Shona Craig are the new Bomber pole vaulters.THROWS: Ithaca’s throwing squad will be led by a crew of freshmen:Ashley Dlubac, Chelsea Dutton, Caity Erickson, Anna Lawrence, Katie Middleton, Michelle Uberbacher and Chelsea Youtz.MULTI-EVENT: Lauren Koppel, an NCAA-qualifier in the heptathlon as a freshman, returns after missing last season with injury. Bennettearned All-NYSCTC honors in both the pentathlon and heptathlon as asophomore. Freshmen Dewart and Evans will join her in multi-eventcompetition.2008-09 SCHEDULE: The Bombers open the season at the CornellRelays, and will compete there five times in 2008-09. Ithaca will alsotravel to meets hosted by the College of New Jersey, LaFayette, RochesterInstitute of Technology, and Tufts, and will participate in the Penn Relays.The Bombers host the annual Ithaca Invitational on March 28. RIT will hostboth the Empire 8 Championships and NYSCTC Championships duringthe indoor season. Nazareth will host the outdoor Empire 8 meet, with St.Lawrence hosting the outdoor state meet. The indoor and outdoor ECACChampionships will be hosted by Tufts and Springfield, respectively. ITHACA COLLEGEAthlete ProfilesLIZZIE BRONSONSprints, Sr.; Reston, Va.2007-08: Bronson was a member of the distance medley relay team that finished first at the indoor Empire8 Championships. She also placed eighth in the 400meter dash (1:08.66) at the meet. Bronson was a member of the 1,600-meter relay team that placed 12that the NYSCTC Indoor Championships. 2006-07:Bronson was a state qualifier with two Bomber relayteams, helping the 1,600-meter and distance medleyrelay teams to 10th-place finishes at the NYSCTC Indoor Championships (inrespective times of 4:21.84 and 13:06.19). The distance medley relay teamalso qualified for the ECAC Championships. 2005-06: Bronson rowed withIthaca’s lightweight crew. High School: A 2005 graduate of Herndon HighSchool, Bronson earned five letters in track & field, serving as captain ofboth the indoor and outdoor teams. Personal: An exercise science/athletictraining major, she is the daughter of John and Mary Bronson.HANNAH JACOBSENSprints/Hurdles, Sr.; Morris2007-08: Jacobsen was runnerup in the 55-meter hurdles at theEmpire 8 Indoor Championships.She also earned all-state honors inthe event at the indoor NYSCTCmeet, placing sixth. Jacobsen qualified for the ECAC Championshipsin the hurdles, where she placed18th with a career-best time of 9.12. She also competed in the pole vault, placing fourth with a height of2.80 meters at the the indoor Empire 8 meet. 2006-07:Jacobsen earned all-state honors with two relay teams—the indoor 800meter (seventh, 1:51.07) and outdoor 400-meter (sixth, 50.28) and helpedboth units to ECAC-qualifying performances. She was also a NYSCTCindividual qualifier in the indoor 55-meter hurdles and the outdoor 100meter dash. Jacobsen was named to the Empire 8 Presidents’ List following the spring semester. 2005-06: As a freshman, Jacobsen was a statequalifier in the 100-meter dash. She placed 15th (13.24) in that event atthe NYSCTC Outdoor Championships. High School: A 2006 graduate ofMorris Central School, Jacobsen was coached by JoAnn Battaglia at MorrisCentral High School. She captured the league and sectional championshipin the 100-meter dash as a senior and was a first-team all-league selection.Jacobsen was named team captain and team MVP in her sophomore, juniorand senior seasons. She also earned varsity letters as a member of the basketball, golf and soccer teams. Personal: A speech-language pathology andaudiology and psychology major, she is the daughter of Gary and MarieJacobsen. Her father is a 1973 Ithaca graduate.Women’s Track and Field 2008-097

ITHACA COLLEGELAUREN KOPPELMulti-Event, Sr.;Rockville Center2007-08: Koppel missed herjunior season due to injury. 200607: Koppel won Empire 8 andNYSCTC titles in the pentathlonduring the indoor season. She wasalso Empire 8 champion in the longjump and triple jump. Outdoors, shewas Empire 8 champion in the javelin, long jump andhigh jump and was runner-up in the 100-meter hurdlesand heptathlon. She placed fourth in the heptathlon at theECAC Championships and eighth in the high jump. 2005-06: Koppel setan Ithaca record in the 55-meter hurdles, with a time of 8.54 at the indoorECAC Championships. She earned all-ECAC honors by placing fourth inthe event. She earned all-state honors in the pentathlon (3rd at NYSCTCChampionships), high jump (3rd) and 55-meter hurdles (4th). Outdoors,Koppel qualified for nationals in the heptathlon. She placed 19th in theNCAA. Koppel was state champion in the heptathlon, and also earned allstate honors in the 100-meter hurdles (5th), high jump (5th), triple jump (5th)and javelin (6th). Koppel was named NYSCTC Rookie of the Year. HighSchool: Koppel is a 2005 graduate of Southside High School. Personal: Ahealth promotion and physical education major, she is the daughter of Jamesand Norma Koppel. She is also a member of the women’s soccer team.MICHELE McMANUSHurdles, Sr.; Enfield, Conn.2007-08: McManus placed 10th inthe 55-meter hurdles at the Empire8 Indoor Championships. 2006-07:McManus was a state qualifier in thejavelin throw. She placed 21st at theNYSCTC Outdoor Championships.2005-06: As a freshman, McManusmade her first trip to the NYSCTCchampionship meet competing in the 400-meter hurdles.She finished 21st at the outdoor state championship event.High School: A 2005 graduate of Enrico Fermi HighSchool, McManus earned six varsity letters as a member of the track &field team and served as team captain. She earned three additional varsityletters as a member of the cross country team. ITHACA COLLEGEALISON SIDERKOJumps, Sr.; Brielle, N.J.2007-08: Siderko repeated as Empire8 high jump champion at both theIndoor and Outdoor Championships,jumping 1.55 and 1.60 meters, respectively, at the two meets. She was alsoall-NYSCTC in the event during bothseasons, placing third at the indoorstate meet and eighth at the outdoormeet. During the outdoor season, she was also named allECAC after placing fourth in the championship meet witha personal-best height of 1.61 meters. 2006-07: Siderkowon the Empire 8 title in both the indoor and outdoor high jump and earnedall-state honors at the NYSCTC indoor (fourth, 1.58 meters) and outdoor(fifth, 1.55 meters) championships. She qualified for the ECAC Indoor andOutdoor Championships and placed 12th at the indoor championship (1.57meters). High School: A 2005 graduate of Manasquan High School, Siderkowas a four-year letter winner as a member of the track & field team. She competed in the high jump and middle distance events and was the sectional runner-up in the high jump her senior year. She also lettered with the basketballand field hockey teams. Personal: A clinical health studies major/physicaltherapy major, she is the daughter of Richard and Kathleen Siderko.DIAMONDO STRATAKOSSprints, Sr.; Ithaca2007-08: Stratakos was named tothe all-state team as a member ofthe 800-meter relay team that finished fourth at the NYSCTC IndoorChampionships and set a new Ithacarecord at 1:47.79. At the indoorEmpire 8 Championships, she placedfourth in the 55-meter hurdles (9.57)and fifth in the 200-meter dash (28.44). At the outdoorconference meet, she placed third in the conference in the100-meter hurdles (16.41), and fifth in both the 400-meterhurdles and javelin. Stratakos was also a member of the 800-meter relayteam that set an Ithaca record of 1:43.58 at the Penn Relays. 2006-07: In herfirst season at Ithaca, Stratakos ran on the Bombers’ Empire 8-championoutdoor 400-meter relay team. That foursome earned all-state honors witha sixth-place finish (50.28) and qualified for the ECAC Championships.2005-06: Stratakos was a member of the soccer team at Springfield. HighSchool: A 2005 graduate of Ithaca High School, Stratakos was coachedby Dan Fravil. She earned three varsity letters and was an all-conferenceperformer. Stratakos also earned all-conference honors as a member of thesoccer team. Personal: A health sciences major, she is the daughter of Nickand Dimitra Stratakos.Women’s Track and Field 2008-099

ITHACA COLLEGESARAH BENNETTMulti-Event, Jr.;East Lyme, Conn.2007-08: Bennett was the Empire 8runner-up in the triple jump duringthe indoor season and runner-up inthe long jump during the outdoorseason. She was also named AllNYSCTC in both seasons, finishing seventh in the pentathlon at theindoor championship and eighth in the heptathlon at theoutdoor championship. 2006-07: Bennett was the Empire8 runner-up in the indoor high jump and was a six-timestate qualifier. She placed ninth at the NYSCTC Championships in theheptathlon (2,927 points) and also qualified in the outdoor triple jump andhigh jump. During the indoor season, Bennett was a NYSCTC qualifier inthe high jump, triple jump and pentathlon. High School: A 2006 graduateof East Lyme High School, Bennett was coached by Carl Reichard. Sheearned seven varsity letters as a member of the track & field teams andserved as team captain. Bennett was all-area and all-class honors in thehigh jump. Personal: A clinical health studies/physical therapy major, sheis the daughter of Jan and Mark Bennett.AMANDA BOCCIODistance, Jr.; Albany2007-08: Boccio was all-NYSCTCin the 5,000 in both the indoor andoutdoor seasons. She placed fifthat the indoor championships witha time of 19:02, and seventh at theoutdoor championships at 18:47.Boccio ran a career-best 18:45 in theevent at the ECAC outdoor championships. At the Empire 8 meets, she placed third inthe 5,000 at the outdoor championship and fourth in themile at the indoor championship. 2006-07: As a freshman, Boccio qualified for the NYSCTC Championships in the 5,000-meterrun. She placed 14th at the state outdoor meet (4:59.11). She was named tothe Empire 8 Presidents’ List following the spring semester. High School:A 2006 graduate of Guilderland High School, Boccio was coached byDick Usher. She earned three varsity letters as a member of the indoor andoutdoor track & field teams and served as team captain her senior year.Boccio also lettered as a member of the cross country team.
