2022 PRIDE GUIDE- ITHACAInclusion and Accessibility Policies of Downtown IthacaPride WeekAccessibility is KEY in Inclusion. Downtown Ithaca PrideWeek is committed to ensuring a safe and welcomingenvironment in all Downtown Ithaca partnered andpresented events during Downtown Ithaca Pride Week.Substance Use is a barrier to Accessibility for those whohave past or current substance use struggles, and for thosewho have a history of trauma related to their own or others'substance use. Substance Use alters mental status and canremove the ability to consent, communicate effectively, andmaintain personal boundaries. Substance Use anddependency impact the LGBTQIA community at a muchhigher rate than the general population. These issuespresent serious health risks both directly and indirectly.Substance use in the community is often utilized toself-medicate due to existing mental health or trauma issuesand barriers to accessing appropriate treatment. We willhave mental health services and harm reduction services inthe community available on-site to provide education andsupport to any who wish to access them. The festival grounds of the Downtown Ithaca Pride Week area SUBSTANCE FREE AREA. This includes legalized ordecriminalized substances such as alcohol and marijuana. No alcohol or drug use is permitted on festival grounds.“Festival Grounds” includes public areas of the Commonswhen events are taking place, the Community School ofMusic and Arts premises during evening dance parties, andDewitt Park during our Family Picnic events. This policy willbe enforced throughout the festival by staff and you will beasked to leave the premises if found using or visibly underthe influence of drugs or alcohol. No containers of alcohol, open or otherwise, will be permitted in the open on festivalgrounds. If you have a demonstrated medical need forsubstance usage as an accommodation (medications,Medical marijuana, etc), designated areas will be provided toutilize in periphery areas and out of sight of festival areas.Information on these areas will be provided by staff only ifprior accommodations are made. Please contact theDowntown Ithaca Special Events team if you need to requestinformation or accomodation.

Physical Accessibility presents barriers to inclusion for folkswith disabilities, who face additional barriers regarding rightsand representation within the LGBTQIA Community.Disability activists and advocates have been on the frontlines fighting for rights at home, in housing, and inworkplaces for decades. LGBTQIA Marriage Equality stillisn’t equal for everyone, as folks with disabilities that relyon Medical or Disability payments or assistance still cannotmarry without losing access to those benefits, necessary tomaintain quality of life and in many cases to remainindependent of care facilities or survive at all.Downtown Ithaca Pride commits to ensuring ADAAccessibility and proactively addressing access needs andaccommodations before they become barriers, not aftermembers of our community are excluded. Please contactthe DIA Special Events Team with any questions or concernsrelated to Accessibility and accommodations requests at anytime. Sign Language Interpretation services, Accessibleseating and viewing areas, and low vision reserved areaswill be arranged and provided upon request, with at least 2weeks' notice prior to the event in order to guaranteecoverage for all who may need it.Racial equity, inclusion, and belonging are vital to theAccessibility of our communities. Downtown Ithaca PrideWeek aims to center and elevate voices that have been andare still vital to the LGBTQIA movement and are oftenunderrepresented or excluded in Pride Celebrationsparticularly. We have made our best efforts to decenterwhite identity and combat white supremacy in our spaces.Priority outreach and access has been made available toBIPOC individuals in our programming and events, particularly in ensuring that these folks are given fullopportunity to perform, vend, and otherwise partake in ourevents. As BIPOC performers and business owners oftenface significant economic, social, and other systemic barriersto success, we have made intentional efforts to help mitigatethose barriers as best we can for our events. We also acknowledge that police presence can be a safetyconcern for people of color in our community, and for theLGBTQIA community as a whole. Historically, police raidsand physical violence have been used to silence LGBTQIA communities. In recognition of this, the festival grounds will

not be patrolled by police. Downtown Ithaca Pride Weekevents will utilize trained crowd managers, consent monitors, and other de-escalation methods including private securitywhere necessary to ensure safety. All private security andDowntown Ithaca Pride staff and volunteers will completeracial sensitivity and LGBTQIA awareness training priorto the event and will be expected to abide by our generalpolicies regarding safety and conduct. If you experience anyconduct contrary to these guidelines, please contact oursafety hotline (see signage) immediately or find a staffmember in a neon green shirt and notify them.Restroom Access is a significant barrier to public access fortransgender and gender variant inviduals as well as thosewith children and folks who may need the support ofcaregivers when using the restroom. All-gender, accessiblerestrooms will be provided at all Downtown Ithaca PrideWeek events. All-gender Infant and toddler changingfacilities are available, please (see map/ask a staff memberfor details). If you need additional restroomaccommodations, such as facilities suitable to change orclothe adults, please let us know so we can makearrangements in advance.Accessibility, Inclusion, and Belonging are an ongoing andcollaborative process. If you have any questions, concerns,or needs not covered in this policy, please do not hesitate tocontact the Downtown Ithaca Special Events Team todiscuss. The Downtown Ithaca Alliance Staff
