College of Southern MarylandAnnual Transfer ReportExecutive SummaryEach year, the Planning, Institutional Effectiveness, and Research Department (PIER) prepares a report oftransfer information of students who were enrolled at the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) during anacademic year and transferred to another institution during the next academic year.This report examines the cohort of CSM students who: 1) were enrolled on the census date of the Fall2014, Spring 2015, and/or Summer 2015 terms; 2) had 12 or more cumulative credits earned by the endof the Summer 2015 term; and 3) transferred to another institution within the subsequent academic year.As with last year’s report, this report includes only those students who had earned 12 or more totalcumulative credits by the end of the Summer 2015 term. The report includes a summary of the transferinformation, transfers by state and institution, transfers by CSM program of study, and rankings oftransfer institutions.Highlights of the Report Of the 7,835 students in the cohort (enrolled in academic year 2015 with 12 or more cumulativecredits earned by the end of the summer 2015 term), 23.7% (1,853) transferred to anotherinstitution within the subsequent academic year. When examining the students by the type of institution to which they transferred, 21.0% (1,643)transferred to four-year institutions, and 2.7% (210) transferred to two-year institutions. The 1,853 students who transferred went to 289 different institutions in 41 states and the Districtof Columbia. Of those,o 1,643 students transferred to 221 different four-year institutions in 41 states and theDistrict of Columbia, ando 210 students transferred to 68 different two-year institutions in 22 states. More than two-thirds (68.8%) of the students who transferred to four-year institutions enrolled atthe following top ten transfer institutions (the number of students transferred and percent of thetotal who transferred to four-year institutions is shown below) [p. 49]:o University of Maryland – University College (427 students, 26.0%)o University of Maryland – College Park (188 students, 11.4%)o Towson University (159 students, 9.7%)o Salisbury University (118 students, 7.2%)o St. Mary’s College of Maryland (59 students, 3.6%)o University of Maryland – Baltimore County (42 students, 2.6%)o Frostburg State University (41 students, 2.5%)o Chamberlain College of Nursing (34 students, 2.1%)o Notre Dame of Maryland University (34 students, 2.1%)o Bowie State University (28 students, 1.7%) Almost two-thirds (61.4%) of the students who transferred to two-year institutions enrolled at thefollowing top five transfer institutions (the number of students transferred and percent of the totalwho transferred to two-year institutions is shown below) [p. 45]:o Prince George’s Community College (61 students, 29.0%)i
