We are keeping up the fight for gluten free prescribing but we are seeing some more consultationsand decisions coming through. In all cases Coeliac UKformally responds to the consultations in support ofcontinuing to provide gluten free food on prescription. Wehighlight the need for a level of support for people withcoeliac disease due to the higher cost of gluten free staplefoods and the limited availability in rural areas and smallerconvenience stores and we focus on research which showsthat gluten free staple foods are not readily available topurchase in budget supermarkets and corner shops and thatgluten free staple foods are 3 4 times more expensive thangluten containing equivalents. This month we have updates regarding:Cambridgeshire and Peterborough CCG consultationuntil 24 MayWorcestershire consultation until 30 MayNottingham North and East CCG, Nottingham WestCCG and Rushcliffe CCGMansfield and Ashfield CCG and Newark andSherwood CCG.Please keep us updated on any changes you experiencelocally.Stay up to date with allergy alertsThe Food Standards Agency is improving its free servicewhich communicates allergy alerts, via email or texts, lettingyou know when a food product is recalled if it is consideredan allergy risk. You can personalise the service, by choosing which of the

International Coeliac Day 16 May 2016With Awareness Week on the horizon, May is a hugelyimportant month for coeliac disease awareness in the UKand the same is true for the rest of the world. In Europe,as in the UK, the average time between the firstappearance of symptoms and diagnosis is over tenyears. Plus, in Europe, only it’s estimated that only 12 15% of people affected by coeliac disease actuallyreceive a diagnosis. This is direct contradiction to the World HealthOrganisation’s (WHO) statement that every person has‘the right to the highest attainable standard of health’,which for people with coeliac disease means a diagnosisas soon as possible. Therefore, on 16 May theAssociation of European Coeliac Societies (AOECS) andtheir Member Societies celebrate International CoeliacDay to raise awareness of missing diagnoses. Anyoneexperiencing symptoms can take our online assessmentat www.isitcoeliacdisease.org.uk to get advice aboutbeing tested. For more information about AOECS, pleasevisit www.aoecs.org.Eating out with confidenceWhen you see the Coeliac UK GF logo you know that therestaurant is adhering to our Gluten free standard.
