SAINT JOSEPH PARISHWAKEFIELD MAPASTOR’S LETTERDear Parishioners,We all have different images of God. This reflection from the Word Among Us may behelpful.God is on our side. He sent Jesus to become one of us so that we could spendeternity with Him. He has given us the grace of the Holy Spirit so that we can live a lifepleasing to Him. These are such comforting truths, and yet we can sometimes losesight of them. We can end up thinking, acting, and praying as if God has destined usfor wrath and not for salvation. How? By failing to remember God’s true character. Even when we aren’t fully aware ofit, we might sometimes imagine God as a severe judge who is in the business ofcondemning people. We hear a harsh voice in our heads saying, “You keep messingup-what’s wrong with you?” Or “I know you’re not really a good person; it’s just afaçade.” And if we’re not careful, we mistake this for the voice of God.But that’s not how God speaks to us! He’s not waiting to catch us at every turn so thathe can tally up our mistakes. He is a loving Father who wants to relate to us as anygood parent would-out of love, not fear. He isn’t condemning us; He’s rooting for us.He’s in the business of encouraging and building up, not tearing down. And when we do “mess up,” our heavenly Father is waiting for us to come to Him sothat He can cover us with His mercy. He isn’t out to punish us, He knows that theconsequences of our sin-our distance from Him, any suffering or ill effects of our sinare punishment enough. He doesn’t want to make us feel even worse. He knows allthe times we try hard to follow Him. Instead, He opens His arms to receive us. Heheals the pain brought about from our sins and gives us grace for the future. Are there times you have struggled with that harsh voice in your head and think that’show God sees you? Imagine the Father as He really is: the God who wraps His armsaround you and says, “You are my precious child. I love you and I forgive you.”For those of you that may not have seen my letter last week, I brought up the topic of tithing. Our parish has been very fortunate that through the generosity of you, the parishioners, weare able to pay our bills without the need for a grand annual collection. However, the financecouncil alerted me to the fact that our current income will no longer meet our expenses dueto the rising cause of health and property insurance. Our current weekly offertory is 15,500and the council forecasts an increased need for 16,000. If you currently tithe to the parish, please accept my gratitude. Because of you, I sleep well at night. If you are not currentlytithing to support the parish, please consider doing so. God promises to bring abundantblessings in return. Just as important as tithing is, is the method in which you tithe. SAINT JOSEPH PARISHWAKEFIELD MAPASTOR’S LETTER (cont.)receive donations in two ways: via the collection basket and electronically. The greatestamount of financial support arrives physically through cash and checks. However, thismethod does not provide stable support. Physical donations are easily affected by weatherand vacations. Two weekends of storms can prove financially devastating to the parish.Electronic giving ensures that the parish is stable and allows us to budget our finances. Ihope you will consider it. If you have any questions, just call the rectory.I am available for confession this week on, Tuesday, September 14, 2021, from 12:30 p.m.- 1:00 p.m. and on Saturday, September 18, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. in the churchor at any other time by appointment. May Jesus continue to shepherd you in all of yourneeds.God love you,PARISH N EW SADULT FAITH FORMATIONWe hope you will join us in viewing “The Chosen” about the life of Jesus through the eyes ofthose that knew him.September 13, 2021, Monday9:30am Reckoning (Episode 2.7) 43 minSeptember 14, 2021, Tuesday6:00 pm Reckoning (Episode 2.7) 43 min7:00 pm Beyond Mountains (Episode 2.8) 57 minSeptember 20, 2021, Monday9:30am Beyond Mountains (Episode 2.8) 57 minSeptember 21, 2021, Tuesday6:00 pm Beyond Mountains (Episode 2.8) 57 min7:00 pm The Shepherd (Pilot Episode) 20 minONLINE GIVINGOnline giving is easy! Allare welcome!SCRIPTURE TEACHI N GHEEDING THE WARNINGSWhen a pickpocket tried to pilfer my property while I was on vaca on in another country, it wasn’t asurprise. I’d read warnings about the danger of subway thieves, so I knew what to do to protect mywallet. But I never expected it to happen.Fortunately, the young man who grabbed my wallet had slippery fingers, so it fell to the floor where Icould retrieve it. But the incident reminded me that I should have heeded the warnings. We don’t like to dwell on warnings because we think they’ll get in the way of enjoying life, but it’simpera ve to pay a en on to them. For instance, Jesus gave us a clear warning while sending out Hisdisciples to proclaim God’s coming kingdom (MATTHEW 10:7). He said, “whoever acknowledges mebefore others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me beforeothers, I will disown before my Father in heaven.” (VV.32-33).We have a choice. In love, God provided a Savior and a plan for us to be in His presence for eternity. But if we turn away from God and choose to reject His message of salva on and the real life He offersfor both now and forever, we lose out on the opportunity to be with Him.May we trust in Jesus, the One who chose to save us from being eternally separated from the One wholoves and made us.
