PASTOR’S COLUMN:CALMED BY THE PRESENCE OF CHRISTSome months ago I began to feel the presence of God less thanbefore. At first I thought of various things, fearing that theywere the reason why the Lord had withdrawn from me, [but] theLord made me realize that I should concentrate on loving him& believing in his love. I then promised Jesus that I wouldnever doubt his love. And I believe that love has continued toguide me, though less sensibly, & to make me understand manyother things . I said that I experience the presence of God less, but it would be better to say that I now experience it in anotherway. Formerly, I experienced & enjoyed the tenderness of thedivine arms carrying me; but now, without ceasing to believethat he still carries me, I experience the holiness of God & myown nothingness. My whole prayer is to ask mercy, grace, &pardon. Many times I meditate on the Miserere (Ps. 51), whenthe Lord lets me do so, but at other times I do nothing butremain quiet in my nothingness, & silence is my supplication. If at times I fear I may not have done what I ought or havedispleased the Lord somehow by working against the Spirit, Irealize at once that such is not the case. They were faults &imperfections that did not penetrate to the depths of my soul;the mercy of God consumes them & I do not lose my peace &quiet. There are moments when it seems that a great torrent ofwater is confined in my heart & it wants to gush forth with greatforce. Then I don’t know what to do; I feel foolish & can onlysay: “O Jesus, give me love.” I go to Mary & say to her: “MyMother, teach me how to love Jesus. Give me the love of yourheart. In order to love him as much as you loved him & stilllove him. My Mother, give me love, for I suffer greatly.”Sometimes in recreation the nuns ask me about spiritual things.I only know that in loving God one is blessed & lacks nothing& understands everything, although one may not know how toexpress it. Venerable Mother Mary Magdalen of Jesus in theEucharist, C.P. (Venerable Mother Mary Magdalen (ł 1960)was a Passionist nun from Spain & a spiritual writer.WHY WE NEED NOT WORRYMary loves us, & He loves us, as we have shown, with aninsuperable & invincible love; more than all the mothers, sisters, & spouses in the world, if they should all unite with oneheart to love us. She loves us with a most effectual love, desiring, willing, & procuring our greatest temporal & spiritualgood; & what is still more, she loves us although we areungrateful, faithless, & sinful. How much would she love usthen, if we corresponded to her love, loved her in turn, werefaithful to her, & gave her our whole confidence, our wholeheart! We have seen that she is most grateful, & knows nobounds in hear love to those that love her; & loving us in thismanner, & so effectually, will she not wish to see us contented& happy? Will she not wish to secure our eternal beatitude? Will she not advocate our cause before the tribunal of divinemercy? Will she not incessantly request of God our eternalsalvation? Who can doubt it? If she has not permitted thosewho could no longer live to pass from this life, even requiringa dispensation of the laws of nature to recall those who werealmost dead, that they might not perish eternally, merelybecause they had preserved some shadow of devotion & hadplaced some confidence in her protection—if she has done eventhis, will she permit the truly devout, her faithful lovers, toperish? Oh, I should think a doubt so impious, so injurious toQofP – 149 page 3her, would be little less than blasphemy!WWW.MASSTIMES.ORGPlease plan to attend Mass while on vacation.Visit www.masstimes.org to find the nearest CatholicChurch to your vacation destination.PLEASE REMEMBER USWHILE YOU’RE AWAYMany of our parish families are planning to get away forsome summer fun and relaxation in the coming months. We pray that your vacations will be safe and a source ofmany happy memories.
