Kindergarten study isCreation to the death of Moses (with a break toobserve the birth of Christ at Christmas and theResurrection during Easter.) First Grade continuesthe study with Joshua through the end of theOld Testament. Second grade covers the NewTestament. The Enrichment Guide provides ashort list of vocabulary words (with definitions)plus discussion questions (with answers) for eachstory. Go over the vocabulary words before reading each story and follow up with talking throughthe questions. There is one study per week forgrades K-2 in this guide. 127 pgs, pb. Janice027028 Guide . . . . . . . . . . . 12.9511.50053115 Story Bible (hb) . . . . 29.9921.50Christian Studies (3-6)This three-year journey through the Bible isdesigned to provide students with a solid foundation in Salvation History. Memoria Press cites theGolden Children’s Bible as its preferred Bible forthe course, crediting its readability, accurateness, and the fantastic illustrations, which serve as avaluable teaching tool in these guides. Althoughyou may certainly use other versions and adaptthe program to fit, the lessons were designed tocorrelate with the version noted; thus vocabularywords, the phrasing of discussion questions, and memorization passages are all based on theabove-mentioned Bible. Each grade level is intended to take oneyear and cover roughly a third of the GoldenChildren’s Bible. This program does not tryto cover every chapter of the Bible; rather, itfocuses students on the fundamental stories andpeople that truly reveal God’s story and plan formankind. This approach enables students (andtheir teachers!) to really dig in to each lesson andgain valuable insights which will strengthen theirfaith in addition to their understanding of theBible. Each book holds 30 lessons, each of whichis spread out over a week to offer a certain levelof detail, yet also ensure that students fully digestthe biblical lessons and retain the knowledge andScripture. On the first day students read the selectedchapters from the Bible. Generally, this includes2-6 chapters which may be consecutive or drawnfrom different books to complete the topic. Thesecond day students learn important terms fromthe reading such as people, places, phrases orthings. Teachers are encouraged to discuss eachof these terms in depth with students, listingfacts known about the character or finding theplaces on an ancient or modern map, in orderto help students remember each article. Studentsconcentrate on committing the memory verse tomemory on the third day, as well as reviewing theverses they have learned previously, storing themin their brain for life. Comprehension questionsfrom the passage are given on the fourth day, prompting the student to dwell on the passageand discover the significance of each story. Afterevery five lessons, a review lesson offers studentsa chance to show what they have learned in thepreceding weeks. Review activities reinforce theterms and people, memory verses, geography, and biblical events studied previously and helpprepare students for the unit tests available inthe teacher book (additional review activities arelocated in the teacher’s manual). Appendices atthe end of the student books include drills, mapping, and timeline activities from each individualreview lesson into one all-inclusive review. The teacher’s manuals are considered necessaryin using the program, as they contain valuablefeatures (including many of the activities) beyondthe answers to student exercises. The front givesan overview of the lesson components as well asan outline for teaching each part. For each lesson, the corresponding teacher pages hold copiesof the student pages, minimized to fit on part ofthe page and with the answers written in. In thelarge margins surrounding these copies, teachingtips provide a background and summary of thepassage read, definitions for important vocabulary or expressions from the Scripture, pertinentgeographical assignments, and references forother Scripture on the same topic or teachingnotes to reinforce the lessons learned. The endof-the-week activities, which were previouslylocated in the student books have been movedto the teacher’s manuals. These include geography and mapping, timeline exercises, discussionquestions based on the illustrations, drawingSee page vi for key to Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act warning labels.suggestions, and memory verse review. The backof the teacher’s manual contains answers to theappendices of the student books as well as unittests for each group of five lessons.Grade 3 focuses on the creation, the patriarchs and the exodus; students read Genesis, most of Exodus, and parts of Numbers andDeuteronomy. Grade 4 is also concentratedin the Old Testament, mainly in the books ofJoshua, Judges, Ruth, I & II Samuel, and I &II Kings, while students learn about the rise ofIsrael and the prophets. Grade 5, covers muchof the New Testament as students study the maintopics of Jesus’ early years, the crucifixion, andthe early church. Grade 6 offers students achronological survey of the Bible. This book canbe used as a review after Book III, or can be usedas a stand-alone survey study.
