Withpractice you can discern between the two, but it takes time.Have patience.Randy: How did you open upto the angels?Doreen: It’s been since childhood. I was born in 1958, whichwas the era when it was a badsign if your kid talked to an invisible friend. But I had spiritually-based parents who gave methe space to talk to my angelicfriends.Randy: How do you perceivethe angels?Doreen: I actually see them.I don’t see them as solid as Iwould see you, but I see themvery clearly in my mind’s eye.I am very clairvoyant. There aredifferent ways to discern angels.The number one way is throughfeelings. You may feel air pressure changes, or real strong gutfeelings to take action or feelwarmth. You might see sparkling lights that have no physicalorigin or signs, like feathers orcoins that appear from out of nowhere. You could also see repetitive number sequences, like 111or 444 everywhere you go.Randy: One day, many yearsago, I stood in my living roomand shouted: “I call on my Collections Angels to go collectanything that is owed to mefrom anybody in the universe!Later that day, a woman whohad owed me money for overtwo years paid me. I had neverheard of Collections Angels — Imade it up — but it worked.Doreen: There are angels foreverything. We all have steadyGuardian Angels who are withus our whole lives. They are onlyour angels. Then there are otherangels who specialize in things,like helping you with your finances, romance, health, career,or moving to a new house, etc.These angels can come and go6/ AWARENESS MAGAZINEas those issues come into yourlife.There are also Archangels likeMichael, Raphael, Gabriel andUriel. There’s hundreds of theseArchangels. They are supervisorsof Guardian Angels. They arespecialists as well, and they arevery powerful. They are non-denominational and unlimited, sothey can be with every person simultaneously and have a uniqueexperience with each person.I think that the more angelicfriends the better. They are trustworthy, egoless beings. I say tocall on all of them. You’re notgoing to take them away fromanyone else. They want to helpyou do whatever it takes to beat peace.It’s also okay to ask for helpwith little things, like findinga parking place or finding theright gift for a friend’s birthday.The things that seem trivial toyou are the things that bringabout peace when the angelshelp you.Randy: Do the angels haverules?Doreen: The only rule theyhave is abiding by our freewillchoices. They will do whateverit takes to bring us peace. Let’ssay you ask to work at CompanyA, but the angels tell you thatyou will be more on your purpose and be happier and moreat peace if you work at Company B. They may steer you toCompany B, but they will stillbe fulfilling your wish or yourprayer to get you a great job.Randy: When people do intentions they often want theiranswer to look a specific way orcome through a specific form,when actually, they are sabotaging their Highest Good by doing so.Doreen: What you are describing is called, “Outlining.”That is when you tell the Universe “I must have this house,”or “I can quit my job and be ahealer when you get me thismuch money, God.”The Universe is beyond whatour limited human mind can see.I always preface my intentions bysaying, “This or something better, God,” because I know thatour human standards are muchlower than God’s standards.Don’t demand that it be thisNOVEMBER / DECEMBER 2011

job, house, or romantic partner.You can say, “I want a wonderfuljob, house, or partner,” then letthe Universe do its magic andfigure out the best solution foryou.The other part of this is to notworry about “how” your prayerwill be answered. The “how”isn’t up to you; it’s up to the Divine Infinite Mind. Just surrenderthe prayer. Let it go, then followthe guidance that comes to youthat asks you to take action.Randy: Right now, many people feel like the challenges intheir lives are intensifying. Whatcan they do?Doreen: It’s a huge time ofchange. The first thing to do isto let go of the rock that you’reclinging to by your fingernailsand allow yourself to flow andchange. If you try to keep thestatus quo or go the old way,you’re going to be thrashed bythe flowing river around you.Just go with the flow. In otherwords, surrender any feelingsto change, or to any doors thatopen to you. Don’t try to staystatic right now; it won’t work.Randy: I’ve always said thatletting go isn’t hard; it’s theholding on that is.Doreen: (laughs) Very true.Randy: I’d love to get yourthoughts about death. One dayI sat on a bus and watched myparents as they talked in a parking lot. They couldn’t see mebecause the bus windows weredarkened. I wondered if thatwas what death was like — thatthose on the other side of theveil might see us, but we can’tsee them.Doreen: That’s a good analogy. They don’t really see usphysically; they see the energyof everything. They see the energy of our thoughts and ourfeelings. The angels probablyshowed you that for that reason.Randy: Are synchronicitiesangelic setups?Doreen: I think the angels arepart of it. I think synchronicitiesare really more about you paying attention to what always is.The universe is in perfect andDivine order. When you noticeit, it means you are in sync withthe universe. Again, it goes backto really listening.Listening, listening, listening.I can’t emphasize that enough.It’s such a huge message the angels have for all of us right now.Stop talking and be quiet and listen to the answers and the guidance they are giving you. Thatwould include signs and synchronicities.Randy: Do you use affirmations?Doreen: I’m a big believer inaffirmations. I used affirmationsto change my life. When I wasin my twenties, I was unhappyand broke. I didn’t have moneyto buy recorded affirmations, soI made my own and said thingslike: “I’m a best-selling author.I have a healthy body. I havewonderful friends.”When I made them, I felt likeI was lying. I would wince whenI heard my own voice because Ihad very low self-esteem. But Imade myself listen to those affirmations three times a day.Within a month, I started to believe them, and quickly, theystarted to become true.State what you dream of inthe here and now as if it’s true,and say it over and over again.Randy: You’ve achieved greatsuccess as an author. What’snext?Doreen: More of the same.I’m on my purpose, which is whyI have the success. When you’reon your purpose you never wantit to end.Writing, teaching and doingoracle cards are my completeand utter joy. In February, I havea deck of Romance Angels Oracle Cards coming out in timefor Valentine’s Day. It’s been adream of mine to do a relationships deck for 20 years. It tookme all this time before I coulddo the deck because I had tounderstand the basis of healthyrelationships before I couldchannel it.Randy: During my first encounter with the angels, I feltlit up with light. But I also feltlike I was paralyzed. I’ve knownothers who have experiencedsomething similar.Doreen: It’s not so much thatyou were paralyzed as timestands still. The angels took youto a place of timelessness. Angelswant everybody to know abouttheir presence, so they’re making their presence known all thetime. They’ve been showing upon digital photography. Occasionally some orbs are dust ona camera lens, but a lot of themare beyond explanation.Small colored orbs seen outdoors are fairies or nature angels.The white orbs seen indoors areGuardian Angels. The angels arenot shy; many orb pictures actually have the form of wings.Randy: Is it easier to accessangels during the holiday season?Doreen: You can access themany time. Whenever there’s moreneed for them, there are moreangels on this earth.Randy: “Saved by an Angel”is a superb manual for anyonewho wants to become an AngelPractitioner. Can you give someguidance for people who wantto incorporate an angelic aspectinto their healing practice?Doreen: The first thing is thatyou don’t need to talk to the angels out loud when you are doing angel work. For example, ifyou are a body worker, you cansilently ask the angels for guid-ance while you are doing yourhealing work. Many of my students are medical professionalswho work with the angels on avery quiet basis.Randy: How often can wecall on the angels?Doreen: Before you beginanything — whether it’s a healing session, driving across town,or calling a friend — I say, callthe angels for help with everything. Take a moment, close youreyes if you can, breathe, and askthe angels to help you.For instance, before I call theairlines to make a reservation Iask the angels, “Please get me awonderful representative, who iscompetent, quick, understandseasily, and who helps me out.Always, I get the nicest peoplewho do magic with the tickets.Anyone can do this. I’m notspecial. It’s not about DoreenVirtue. It’s about God and theangels, and they are available toeach of us. Everyone has angelswith them at all times just likeeveryone has a heart, and lungs,and a brain. They are with youand they want to help you, sowhy not utilize this gift that Godhas given you?Randy: All we have to do isask.Doreen: Yes, and it doesn’tmatter how you ask. You can’tdo it wrong. Evidently his labor of loveto lead the charge is going reallywell.Awareness: So what is yourfavorite definition of miraclesright now?Dr. Bernie Siegel: To me, amiracle would be somethingthat there really is no explanation for — like the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, where youhave a small amount of oil leftand it ends up burning for eightdays to give you time to producemore oil for the sacred candle.To me, that’s a miracle, because Ican’t explain how it kept burning for eight days.What I’ve learned is, miraclesare built into us. Creation, to me,is a miracle. None of us can ex-NOVEMBER / DECEMBER 2011plain it. Astronomers and quantum physicists live with thingsthat they can’t explain and theydon’t close their minds. That’sthe sad part, I think, for mostof the world, that when peoplecan’t understand how somethinghappens or can’t explain it, theyjust don’t accept it.Miracles are the things wecan not explain but have happened. We need to be open tothe potential that’s within eachof us and not call it spontaneousor lucky, like for instance whendoctors use the term “spontaneous remission.” When you usea term like ‘spontaneous remission’ — you’re not really learning anything. We need to stepback and say, “All right. Howwas this induced?”Solzhenitsyn used the term‘self-induced healing.’ So I’dsay miracles, in a sense, areself-induced. There’s a desire;there’s an intention. Quantumphysicists talk about desire andintention all through the physical world causing things to occur which would not normallyoccur if they were not desired.I always add the word “intention” because I think it has tobe a meaningful desire, if youknow what I mean.When we bring those thingsin, then we’re altering the physical world. Everything comesfrom nothing — undifferentiatedpotential. My description of Godis intelligent, loving, consciousenergy. So if you have those fourthings — intelligence, love, consciousness, and energy — youcan create. Then the process ismiraculous and the potential isalways there to keep creating sothat we have the potential to survive and live a miraculous life.Awareness: That is fabulous!One of the things that I reallyfelt so deeply touched by is howmuch the stories give a sensethat someone was grabbed bya healing crisis, and how he orshe lived the question — openedto what you’re talking about,how the mystery of somethinggreater can be brought intoone’s life.Dr. Siegel: Yeah. Take meditation, I mean, it’s simple. I thinkit does change us when we canquiet our mind, and get in touchwith the greater creative energyor force — call it God if youwant or spirit or soul, whatever.When we can connect with it —the sentence I love is, “With Godall things are possible.”To me, it isn’t this personsitting somewhere that’s goingto do me a favor. Siegel.(Continued from page 9)numbers and statistics tell you.Who knows what the future is?When people are willing to getin touch with the life force withinthem, amazing things happen.Hemingway had a line, “Theworld breaks everyone; some ofus become strong at the brokenplaces.” To me, that’s the sadpart. I think too often peopleneed a disaster to wake them upto the reality of life.I always say to people, accept your mortality. Accept thefact that you’re here for a limited time, and don’t give your lifeaway. Too many of us — due toparenting and other authorityfigures in our lives — becomewhat others want. So we loseour lives.If I had to summarize it all,I say to people, live your life,and love your body. When yourbody gets the message that youare loved and your life is loved,it does everything it can to keepyou alive. I mean, there is achemistry to all this.10 / A W A R E N E S S M A G A Z I N ELoneliness makes you morevulnerable to illness and laughter helps you to live longer.Why? Because of the chemistrythat changes within your bodywhen you deal with those emotional feelings.Awareness: Well, one of thethings that you have such agift with is helping people access that inner intelligence.I’m aware how we’re alwaysaccessing creative intelligencewith our choices — we’re really participants in creation. Youknow?Dr. Siegel: Yeah. It’s amazinghow powerful the mind is whensomebody believes. That’s why Ido a lot of work with dreams anddrawings, because I always seeus literally as multiple personalities. One is an intellectual personality; the other’s an intuitiveone, amongst all the others.But if your intellect says, “No,you still want to do this,” andyour intuition says, “This is thewrong thing,” then you’re going to have a lot of conflict andtrouble and side effects if you gointo a certain treatment. But ifthe two agree, then good thingshappen in terms of how you respond to whatever treatment orchange in your life is going on.Let me add this: if you intellectually say, no, I don’t wantto go through that, I don’t wantthat treatment, but you draw abeautiful picture, I say your inner wisdom knows it’s good foryou; I would suggest you go andget it. You can work on your intuitive — you might say insight,too, by visualizing, meditating,and creating the images that youwant to happen.So you can get your intuitionto know that we can go throughthis without trouble and it’s okay,and then create that agreementwithin yourself so you have farfewer side effects. It’s almostlike hypnotizing yourself. Whenyou’re at peace with the treatment, and you see it as a giftfrom God, you have a very different reaction.Awareness: That’s one of themost potent points you’ve made,having the person really selectthe path that works by understanding the dynamics at workin their own dreams and drawings.Dr. Siegel: Yes .I like theword “empowerment;” that youempower the patient, althoughI don’t like the word “patient.”It’s too submissive. I like to empower people to become whatI call a “respant.” That’s a wordI made up — a responsible participant.People are afraid to becomeresponsible and to participate.They think, “If I don’t get better, it’s my fault.” That’s the sadpart — that someone has grownup without love and with rejection and abuse, so the person isafraid to take on a challenge.Awareness: Again, that’s oneof the things you make a greatpoint about, giving up the fearof the outcome not being whatsomeone wants. Do you want tospeak to that?Dr. Siegel: Well, fear is thereto protect us. What I mean bythat is if you’re taking a walkand you see some creature thatscares you, you can run the otherway faster than you’ve ever runbefore.
