Holy Ghost Parish Whitman, MAA MESSAGE FROM FATHER MAHONEYDear Light of Christ Catholic Collaborative,Jesus Christ is Risen, Alleluia!!! Alleluia!!! We are inour final stretch of Easter. This week we Celebrate theAscension of the Lord on Thursday. Our Collaborativewill celebrate two Masses for the Holy Day: A VigilMass on Wednesday at Holy Ghost at 7:00 p.m. and a9:00 a.m. Mass on Thursday at St. Bridget’s.In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus states that: “This is mycommandment: love one another as I love you.” How canyou be commanded to love? Surely love has to be a freeresponse, not an obligation. You can be commanded toobey, but how can you be commanded to love? Howcould Jesus say, "This is my commandment, that you loveone another?" When I am thirsty, the drink commandsme; when I am hungry, the food commands me. And Goddoes the same when he commands me to love. In otherwords, the command to love is not a command that is laidon us from the outside; it is an inner command, an innerurgency placed in our very being by God. On this Mother’s Day, our Gospel tells us about the love of God for hispeople and the command to mirror that love to others.God’s primary identity, St. John reminds us, is that oflove. At their very best, human relationships are to imitatethat love, mirroring the relationship between God and us.And certainly a mother’s love for her children often doesthat. Happy Mother’s Day.As I shared in last week’s bulletin, I was so pleased thatover 500 people voted for the Name of our Collaborative! We have 6 Weekend Masses for our Collaborative. EachMass shared the same vision. God is so good! “TheLight of Christ” is certainly shining through our Collaborative! Congratulations everyone for taking ownershipby naming our Light of Christ Catholic Collaborative.Fr. Mark Riley continues to heal from depression. Anycards of encouragement you may wish to send to Fr. Markmay be sent to either of our Rectories and we will gladlyforward them. He is grateful for all the cards, love, andsupport that have been sent so far.Deacon Chris Lowe will be Ordained a Priest on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross inBoston by Cardinal Seán. For those wishing to participatein the Ordination, there are still seats available on the bus. Please call either Rectory to secure a space. Father ChrisLowe will come to our Collaborative to offer a Mass ofThanksgiving on Sunday, May 31st at St. Bridget’s at 12Noon with a Reception to follow in the Parish Hall. AllMay 10, 2015are invited to attend and wish Father Chris well as he begins his priestly ministry.WONDERFUL NEWS!!! I am so happy to share withyou that Cardinal Seán has appointed Rev.
