IT’S TIME TO RELEASE: UNDERSTANDING THE HOLY GHOST (HOLY SPIRIT)THE PERSON AND PERSONALITY OF THE HOLY SPIRITIs the Holy Spirit a Person?1This is a more difficult question than was a Christ a person. He lived among us, walked,ate, wept, and all of things. No one ever question the personhood. The questions weremore in line with what kind of person was He and the natures and all that? It wascomplicated but of the Spirit this is not as easy of issue. The Spirit is invisible, bydefinition Spirit not being physically present. The words for the Spirit throughout theNew and Old Testament pneuma (πνεῦμα) and ruach ( )רוח do not necessarilycommunicate persons. In both cases the terms can be translated wind, breath. So whytake The Spirit of Adonay ( ) אֲ ֹדנָי רּוח as a personal entity. Why not take expressions likethe “hand of the LORD” the “eye of the LORD” is on those who fear Him; the “strongright arm of the LORD” and the “Spirit of the LORD” in the very same way as somemanifestation of the presence of God in some respect; watchfulness eye of the LORD,power of the LORD the strong right arm of the LORD. The manifestation of the LORD insome respect. Why not take it as the “breath of the LORD”? What He is wanting tobring; the life that He wants to bring. Why take it as Spirit. That is what is behind thisquestion. Some books on the Holy Spirit use the pronoun “it” instead of He to refer tothe Spirit. Some feminists use the pronoun “She” instead of He to refer to the it-part/systematic-theologypg. 9

So also no onecomprehends what is truly God’s except the Spirit of GodRomans 8:27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit,because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.WILL:I Corinthians 12:11 All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and hedistributes them to each one, just as he determines (wills).KNOWLEDGE:I Corinthians 2:10-11 However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what noear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived the things God has preparedfor those who love him 10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. TheSpirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a person’sthoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows thethoughts of God except the Spirit of God.EMOTION:Ephesians 4:30 And do not grieve (deep sorrow) the Holy Spirit of God, withwhom you were sealed for the day of redemption.HE SPEAKS:Mark 13:11 Whenever you are arrested and brought to trial, do not worrybeforehand about what to say. Just say whatever is given you at the time, for it is notyou speaking, but the Holy Spirit.John 16:13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; forhe will not speak on his own, but will speak whatever he hears, and he will declare toyou the things that are to come.pg. 10

So get up and go downstairs. Do nothesitate to go with them, for I have sent them.”Acts 13:2 While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said,“Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”HE TEACHES:John 14:26 “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in Myname, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.HE PRAYS:Romans 8:26-27 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We donot know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us throughwordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit,because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.HE COMFORTS:John 14:26 But the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor,Strengthener, Standby), the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name [in Myplace, to represent Me and act on My behalf, He will teach you all things. And He willhelp you remember everything that I have told you (Amplified Bible)HE CAN BE BLASPHEMED:Matthew 12:31 “Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgivenpeople, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgivenHE CAN BE LIED TO:Acts 5: 3-4 Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heartthat you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money youreceived for the land? 4 Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold,wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? Youhave not lied just to human beings but to God.”pg. 11

Father!” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if ason, then an heir through God. (Galatians 4:4-7 ESV)THE INCARNATION: (Conceived) Luke 1:35The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit willcome on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one tobe born will be called the Son of God.John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We haveseen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full ofgrace and truth.THE BAPTISM: (Anointed) Matthew 3:16-17 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he wentup out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of Goddescending like a dove and alighting on him.17 And a voice from heaven said, “This ismy Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”Luke 3:21-22 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too.And as he was praying, heaven was opened 22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him inbodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love;with you I am well pleased.”Mark 1:10-11 Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heavenbeing torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice camefrom heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” (First event ofJesus’ ministry was not something he did but something that happened to him)John 1:32-34 Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down fromheaven as a dove and remain on him. 33 And I myself did not know him, but the onewho sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit comedown and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ 34 I have seen and Itestify that this is God’s Chosen One.The Spirit’s decent symbolizes Jesus’ empowerment for ministry and hisuniqueness as God’s Son.pg. 12

Heate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.EMPOWERMENT FOR MINISTRY: Luke 4:14-15 Jesus returned to Galilee in thepower of the Spirit, and news about him spread through the whole countryside. 15 Hewas teaching in their synagogues, and everyone praised him.Luke 4: 16-21 And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and aswas His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up to read. 17And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him. And He opened the book andfound the place where it was written,18“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,Because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor.He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives,And recovery of sight to the blind,To set free those who are oppressed,19To proclaim the favorable year of the Lord.”20 And He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes ofall in the synagogue were fixed on Him. 21 And He began to say to them, “Today thisScripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” (Jesus will loose His people from bondageof sin)Matthew 12:28 But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then thekingdom of God has come upon you. (Jesus restores, Holy Spirit empowers to defeatdemonic opponents).John 3:34 For the one whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God[a]gives the Spirit without limit.Acts 10:37-38 You know what has happened throughout the province of Judea,beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached— 38 how God anointedJesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing goodand healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.JOY: At that time Jesus, full of joy through the Holy Spirit, said, “I praise you, Father,Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise andlearned, and revealed them to little children. The world cannot accept him, because it neithersees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.John 7:37-39 On the last and greatest day of the festival, Jesus stood and said ina loud voice, “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. 38 Whoever believes inme, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.” 39 By this hemeant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that timethe Spirit had not been given since Jesus had not yet been glorified.John 14:26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in myname, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.John 16:7-8 7 But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away.Unless I go away, the Advocate (Helper, Counselor) will not come to you; but if I go, Iwill send him to you.Luke 24:49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in thecity until you have been clothed with power from on high.”Acts 1:4-5 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them thiscommand: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which youhave heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you willbe baptized with the Holy Spirit.”RESURRECTION: Romans 8:11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from thedead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortalbodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.GREAT COMMISSION: Matthew 28:18-19 And Jesus came and said to them, “Allauthority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and makedisciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and ofthe Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”pg. 14

IT’S TIME TO RELEASE: UNDERSTANDING THE HOLY GHOST (HOLY SPIRIT)PENTECOSTActs 2:1-21 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in oneplace. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came fromheaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They sawwhat seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on eachof them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak inother tongues as the Spirit enabled them. 5 Now there were staying inJerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven. 6 When theyheard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because eachone heard their own language being spoken. 7 Utterly amazed, they asked:“Aren’t all these who are speaking Galileans? 8 Then how is it that each ofus hears them in our native language? 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites;residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitorsfrom Rome 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs—we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!” 12Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too muchwine.” 14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice andaddressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, letme explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people arenot drunk, as you suppose. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[a]in you.1 Corinthians 2:13 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but theSpirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us.1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the HolySpirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 youwere bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.(The indwelling of the Holy Spirit is the action by which God takes up permanentresidence in the body of a believer in Jesus Christ.)SANCTIFIES: 2 Thessalonians 2:13 But we ought always to thank God for you,brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as first fruits to besaved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.Romans 15:16 to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles. He gave me thepriestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of God, so that the Gentiles might become anoffering acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.pg. 16

Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him toyou.
