Identify proper CPR compressions and breathing. Identify severe bleeding and the proper procedure to control external bleeding. Identify how to properly immobilize different injuries to the extremities.Instructional TechniquesStudents will read their chapters in the current textbook, which is required. PowerPointpresentations are available to be viewed which include videos and information fromeach chapter. Since the videos are embedded in the PowerPoints, depending on thestudent’s Internet connection, these may take a while to download. Digital Media linksfor these American Red Cross videos should help students view the materials withoutdownloading them. See Digital Media on your Module. Students will participate invarious discussion boards that are related to the information that is presented. Internetsearches may be used for extra credit assignments.Methods of EvaluationStudents will be evaluated though quizzes from the textbook, discussion boards, andone proctored tests (the final). Extra credit assignments which may include Internetsearches will may be included during the semester. Please do not expect bonuses, butview them as gifts that should be taken advantage.

Discussion Board5%The following scale will be used to arrive at the semester letter grade.90 – 100A80 - 89B70 - 79C60 - 69D59 or below FTestingThe Proctored test (exam) must be taken at an approved site, preferably at your hostcommunity college. It is the student’s responsibility to schedule this proctored test andthis is done through our Canvas site with SmarterProctoring. Failing to schedule yourproctored test during the testing period is not an excuse to miss the exam. Pleasedo not wait until the last day—last semester the Internet went down. A proctored test isan exam in which the student must go to a testing center and present properidentification to take the test. If you need assistance with this contact your E-Learningdepartment at your college or Instructor. No notes, books or other aids may be usedfor the proctored test. Our Proctored test will be open for two days and noextensions will be allowed.Academic HonestyScholastic dishonesty will not be tolerated. You are expected to complete all work forthis course on your own. Pagers, cell phones, and other electronic devices will not beallowed in any of the testing centers. If any electronic device is brought out during aproctored test the student will receive a grade of a zero and be asked to leave. Anyquestions regarding this policy should be discussed with the instructor. The student isexpected to do his or her own work for all assignments.AttendanceAttendance in a distance learning class means logging in and submitting assignmentson regularly basis to the course site as directed by the instructor. However, justlogging into the Canvas site does not constitute attendance—submission ofassignments determines attendance. Assignments should be submitted well beforethe deadlines. This instructor has the right to drop an excessively absent student fromclass at any time during the semester before the withdrawal date. The student shouldcheck announcements, deadlines, and e-mails on the Canvas site several times perweek, even if deadlines are met. New information or extra credit assignments may beposted in between deadlines. Missing any combination of two assignments, quizzesor proctored test over the course of the semester will result in being dropped

Once the last day to withdraw from a MSVCC course has passed thestudent will remain in the course and receive the appropriate grade based on worksubmitted.Other Meridian Community College PoliciesATTENDANCE POLICY: Meridian Community College believes strongly that the singlegreatest predictor of student success is attendance in class. Students are expected to attendclass regularly. Instructors are required to keep accurate attendance records. Specific attendancerequirements for each course are determined and enforced by the instructor and vary frominstructor to instructor. The complete attendance policy may be found in the current MCCCatalog. No food or drink of any kind is allowed in the classroom. Guests, including children,should not be brought into the classroom during class time.CELL PHONES AND PAGERS: Because of the noise distraction during class, use of thesedevices will only be allowed to access e-textbooks or other course specific information. Anyquestions with this policy should be discussed with the instructor.STUDENT IDENTIFICATION POLICY: Students must display a current MCC ID card onhis/her person at all times while on campus. ID cards are provided and validated by the CampusPolice office, located on the first floor of Ivy Hall. The ID card must be worn on the personabove the waist, which means it cannot be on a purse, book bag, etc. Individuals without an IDcard in plain view will be stopped to verify their status as a student, staff, or authorized visitor.Displaying of the ID is also required for use of the MCC library and most other services andactivities. Unusually loud noise which creates a public disturbance including, but not limited to,shouting, use of portable radios, use of automobile radios, use of laptops or musicalinstrumentsSMOKING AND TOBACCO USE POLICY: Meridian Community College prohibitssmoking and/or using tobacco products inside any facility owned or operated by MCC. Smokingincludes the use of any product that is smoked and produces smoke or vapor including but notlimited to cigarettes, hookahs, and electronic cigarettes. Smoking and using tobacco products islimited to designated areas. Smoking near any building entrance is prohibited. Any Workforce/CareerTechnical student who exhibits behavior, in the opinion of the instructor, consistent withthe use of drugs and/or alcohol, will be required to submit to a urine or blood analysis test.WITHDRAWAL PROCEDURE:It is the student's responsibility to officially withdraw from any and all courses. The studentshould contact the instructor (in person, by phone or via email) to discuss the decision towithdraw. A student can request to be withdrawn from courses by completing the followingsteps:1. Log on to Eaglenet and click on the “My Student Services” tab2. Select the “Registration” tab3. Select the “Request to be Dropped from a Class” link4. Select the course or courses to be dropped5. You may make notes during weekly quizzeswhich may help when studying for this exam. The questions on your proctored test will coverthe same information as the quizzes, HOWEVER, the questions will be worded differently tosee if you have grasped the information rather than just memorized the information aspresented earlier in the semester. Students should read the chapters assigned and take the quiz whichwill consist of multiple choice, listing/short answer questions, matching or true/false questions.These will NOT be proctored. You should complete these by dates assigned and try to do yourbest! You will not have a time limit to take each quiz, so take your time and find everyanswer before submitting the quiz. You will not be able to retake the quiz or if you miss thedeadline—the quiz will not be reopened for you. It is your responsibility to know thedeadlines and not wait until the last minute to submit because things happen and Internetservers can go down.Discussion Board Assignments 5% of your final grade1 Required: 5 % of your total averageI will post a discussion board about a topic discussed in the course—you will see these in theweekly modules and on your assignment sheet. You should use original thought and fullyanswer the question or elaborate on the topic. Please be advised that copying, paraphrasing orcheating of any kind on these assignments will result in a zero. You should write a paragraph(minimum of 8 complete sentences) with original thought and parallels to the knowledge youhave coming into the course or from personal experience.Students will not immediately be given a grade like the weekly quizzes on your discussionboards! Students should use information from the Powerpoints, text, and outside sources (ifneeded) to write an answer in their own words. Do not simply copy and paste from an outsidesource—this will result in a Zero (0). In order to earn full credit, you must use completesentences and provide original thought. After you have made your initial post stating youropinion and thoughts, you are required to post on at least 3 of your classmates’ posts. Youshould write at least 3-4 sentences in which you agree or disagree with their post. You shoulddisagree with respect since all of us have different opinions. Posts such as: “that’s what Iwould do”, “I agree totally with what you have said”, etc. will not count as part of yourrequired grade. Again, you should post the initial post (of at least 8 sentences) and commenton at least 3 of your classmates’ posts and each post should be at least 3 to 4 sentences inlength.Extra Credit OpportunitiesExtra credit is offered to increase the score on your different assignments. It is not a given thatextra credit opportunities will be offered. I may post extra credit opportunities in weeklymodules and you must check to see if extra credit has been offered.
