CorpIn a super game of footy vs Mt Eliza, the Sharksunfortunately fell just on the wrong side of theledger, falling short by just 4 points. After a tight first quarter, the Sharks played theirbest football of the year so far to take a 4-goallead into the main break. Mitch Hallahan wasunstoppable, whilst Leigh Poholke was puttingon a masterclass at full forward, kicking theSharks first 4 goals. However, the 3rd quarter saw Mt Eliza turn it on,playing quick skillful footy which we had heardthey were capable of. Lachie Croad continued todominate the ruck as he has done for the lastfew weeks, but the Mt Eliza midfield woke up toit and started getting first hands on the footy.Mt Eliza took a 2-point lead into the final break. The final quarter was a tight desperate affair, with the Sharks generally dominating thequarter. With 2 mins to go, the Sharks held a 4point lead, but Mt Eliza were able to force theforward where a strong mark and goal gavethem the lead in the dying seconds, the Sharksgoing down by 4 points in the end.Whilst disappoint to lose what we should reallyhave won against a quality opposition, therewere definitely some good signs for the Sharks.Nick Corp had his giant mitts working all day, whilst Micky Walker earnt his recall with a strongPerformance.Final Scores:- Mt Eliza12.8-80 defeated Sorrento11.10-76Best Players: N. Shark BitesNews from theSorrento F & N Club2021 Newsletter #8 – MayReservesThe Reserves team apologizes to the Sorrentosupporters & sponsors for an uncompetitiveperformance. As the score suggests, we were totally outplayed& outclassed by a fitter & keener Mt Eliza team.We need recruits to help cover injuries & createcompetition for positions in the team. If anyoneknows of someone who wants to play footy thenplease contact us.No goalkickers & no best players.Final Score: - Mt Eliza 20.19-139 defeatedSorrento 0.3-3Best: Goal Kickers: -contest, which was very disappointing . but atthe same time, we know that this group is betterthan that and will bounce back next week.Having said that we had 3-4 players who reallybattled hard all day. James Nevinson kept hisplayer to a solitary goal for the day. EdenMatheson -Coles worked tirelessly in the ruckand in the back half. Christian Bell and MasonJames fought hard all day and were one of thefew who matched Mt Eliza physically.Whilst we suffered a big loss, there are lots wecan learn from a game like this and we can learnas much from a loss as we can from a win. Sofrom here we train hard, listen and learn andlook forward to the rematch in 10 weeks’ time.Final Scores: - Mt Eliza 19.16-130 defeatedSorrento 2.2-14Under 19sRound 4 saw us travel up the freeway to take onMt Eliza. After been very, very successful overthe last 4-5 seasons on the Peninsula, this wasthe biggest test we faced in many years.Best Players: J. Nevinson, E. Matheson-Coles, C.Bell, C. Stokes, M. James, J. RulachGoal Kickers: S. Hughes, M. DohertySadly, we went in somewhat undermanned, with5-6 of our best 12 players out. By the end of thegame, we had been given a football lesson, goingdown by 19 goals. Mt Eliza was harder at thecontest than us and were far superior in theirstructural set up.As a coach, all we ask of our players is effort andcommitment. If players give this then we can'task for more. There were times that we wereless than committed and even shirked theDavid MacFarlan Recreation ReserveP.O.
