Shark BitesNews from theSorrento F & N Club2021 Newsletter #13 - JuneMatch Report - Round 10 vs RosebudSeniorsIn a welcome return to community sport, the clashagainst Rosebud was held in front of no crowd .Zero . Zilch . None!!!!! There was however ahealthy turnout of ‘’essential support staff’’!!!!!After being given a football lesson in Round byRosebud, and a difficult few weeks with the Covidlayoff and the change in Coach, the Sharks werekeen to get back on the park and play footy. However, Rosebud jumped us again, and wesimply didn’t look like getting our flow going in thefirst half. However, at the same time we didn’t letRosebud get away from us, and whilst we wentinto the break 4 goals down, the feel within theplaying group was that this was a very winnablegame. Benny Cromb started well in a tagging role, whilst the injection of three U19 lads (JarrahCaddan, Henry Bird, and Taj Barber) for theirsenior debuts injected significant energy and spiritinto the team. The highlight of the first half wasundoubtedly the debut goal from Jarrah Caddan.Sharks came out after the main break with muchmore purpose, kicking 3 goals for the qtr, andnarrowing the gap to just 2 goals going into thelast quarter . but with the momentum well andtruly swinging to the Sharks favour. MylesPoholke seemed to be everywhere, whilst MarcusGardiners in and under was critical.Sharks dominated most of the play in the lastquarter, with the football being played in theSharks forward half . However some missedopportunities in front of goal ended up provingcrucial. The Sharks ended up kicking 1 goal 7behinds for the quarter, whilst Rosebud probablyhad only 4 forward 50 entries, but snagged 2majors – which was enough to see them run out13 point winners.Shark Bites Editor – David CasparAny news, suggestions, or comments, please email to david.caspar.photography@gmail.comNick Marston was outstanding down back all day,as was Daniel Grant and Imo Jackson.Final ScoresRosebudSorrento9.6-606.11-47Goal Kickers: N. Shark BitesNews from theSorrento F & N Club2021 Newsletter #13 - JuneReservesGreat to be back on the field after the Covidbreak. Thanks to the 20 guys who played so thatwe could at least field a team but it was a toughday at the office!!!!With many players unavailable it was a goodopportunity for those who played to show theirfooty skills. All players have had opportunitiesnow. Hopefully some injured players come backover the next 1-2 weeks.Well done to Matt King, Harry Batten, NickMcLardy & Luke Bakewell in the midfield who allworked hard. Good efforts by Michael Pattison &Chris Croad in defence. But overall a terrible result to once again begoalless in a game.Murray Browne – Reserves CoachFinal ScoresRosebudSorrento12.12-840.3-3Best Players: M. King, H. Batten, M. Pattison, N.McLardy, L. Bakewell, C. CroadUnder 19sAfter a turbulent 4-6 weeks we finally got back onthe winners list with a come from behind win overRosebud. The 1st 3/4 of the game was pretty much playedbetween the arcs and was a low scoring armwrestle. We went into the 3rd qtr break 2 goals down, after only kicking 2 for the 1st ¾s. Weconcentrated on holding the ball and taking timewith our possessions, and giving ourselves time toget into smarter positions where we could controlthe play. This worked very effectively in the lastqtr and we managed to kick 4 goals to nil to runaway with a welcome win. After a long layoff with injury Boston Rileyreturned and was best on ground across half back.Fergus Anderson continued his good form ofrecent games. Others to do well were CharlieGrant , Christian Bell, and Fin Clarke. Unlike thelast 3 or 4 games, it was a good even spread ofcontributors. It was good to see the boys listen and implementthe plans we are talking about. Above all it wasgreat to see the boys enjoy their footy and singthe song again.
