Shark BitesNews from theSorrento F & N Club2021 Newsletter #14 - JuneMatch Report - Round 11 vs PinesSeniorsCrowds were back for our clash with arch rivalsThe Pines at Shark Park.Sharks dominated the first 3 quarters, lookinggood across the ground and went into the finalbreak with a handy 22 point lead. Myles Poholkewas everywhere, James Brigden was giving usplenty up forward, whilst Imo Jackson and LiamFraser were solid down back. However, as has been a recurring theme during2021, a dismal last quarter proved costly with Pinekicking 6 goals including a last minute goal after acontroversial 50 year penalty whilst left the Sharks5 points short at the final siren.Very disappointing after domination much of thegame. Marcus Gardiner was super all day, NoseyDobrowolski battled hard all day, whilst MickeyWalker continued his impressive form.Marcus Gardiner – Seniors Best on GroundFinal ScoresSorrentoPinesWe entered the game with a number of playersunderdone. Angus Sass Callaghan & Will Tuckerwere playing their first games for the season, whilst Captain Trev Mattison & Alex Bird wereback from a few weeks out.11.8-7412.7-79Goal Kickers: J. Brigden 3, M. WalkerReservesAfter 3 tight quarters we played excellent, disciplined footy in the last quarter to win thegame.Well done to Harry Batten, Kenny King, Paddy Hall& Lukey Bakewell in the midfield. Alex May ledour defence, which kept Pines goalless in the lasthalf, whilst Anthony Ringa-ding ding kicked 3valuable goals up forward. Jack Burford’s chasing& tackling of opponents was a highlight. We are a week-to-week proposition depending oninjuries to our list. But hopefully we can head toEdi-Asp this week with a similar squad.Shark Bites Editor – David CasparAny news, suggestions, or comments, please email to david.caspar.photography@gmail.comPage 1 of 11David MacFarlan Recreation ReserveP.O. Shark BitesNews from theSorrento F & N Club2021 Newsletter #14 - JuneMurray Browne – Reserves CoachFinal ScoresSorrentoPines7.7-494.11-35Goal Kickers: A. Ring 3, M. King 2, N. McLardy, J.BurfordBest Players: H. Batten, K. King, L. Bakewell, P.Gorman, J. Burford, A. RingUnder 19sIt's been a while but we recorded another wintoday to make it 2 in a row vs The Pines. The Pines came out very strongly and by qtr timewe were down by 4-5 goals. Sam Wilson and FinClarke battled really well in the first qtr as westruggled to score. In the 2nd qtr, we started to even up the gamebut were still struggling to kick goals but the gamedid feel more even and we felt if we held the balland controlled possession we could work backinto the game. All year our backline has been verytight and we are rarely seeing forwards kick goals. our opposition are kicking goals from themidfield and today was the same.James Nevinson and Boston Riley went into themiddle and we started to take control just before1/2 time. After half time we "clicked" and really started totake control of the game. Jarvis Espie moved upthe ground after a long layoff with injury and wasinstrumental in in getting centre squareclearances. Fergus Anderson started gettingplenty of the ball. Charlie Stokes went to a wingand became more damaging further up theground. It may have been cold on Saturday, but Ringa wasin red hot form with 3 majors!!!Matt Doherty presented well and with betterdelivery we managed to get many good chains ofball movement and kicked away. More of thesame in the last quarter kicking with the wind anddespite a late scare - not helped by anundisciplined 50m penalty we recorded a conefrom behind win.Boston Riley, (BOG 2 weeks in a row), FergusAnderson and James Nevinson were in the bestwith Jarvis Espie, Fin Clarke and Charlie Stokes allplaying very wellShark Bites Editor – David CasparAny news, suggestions, or comments, please email to david.caspar.photography@gmail.comPage 2 of 11David MacFarlan Recreation ReserveP.O.
