In general, you should never put water down a drain that can be put to another use. Beconscious of water conservation. Also, be aware of how much water you are using in your home byreviewing your metered water bill. Divide the water usage by the days in the billing period and alsoby the number of people in the household. On average, a person uses about 50 gallons of water perday. Check to see if your bill is similar and if not, check for sources where you may be losing waterthrough a leaking toilet, faucet or outdoor hose. VOLUME 29, ISSUE 3SUMMER BRUSHPICK UPSummer brush pickup will continue throughSEPTEMBER 26, 2017. The Borough workerswill pick up and haul away all compostablewaste such as: dead leaves, dead plantmaterial, tree and brush trimmings andbranches up to 3” in diameter and 6’ inlength. Brush and branches must be bundledwith string or twine. Please do not use wire tobundle. Items that will not be picked up arestone, garbage, gravel, dirt, junk, andappliances. Items must be placed curbside by7:00 am, and the only alley pickups will be onSweet Cherry Court in Holliday Hills. Ifitems are not picked up on the scheduledday, they will be picked up on the NEXTSCHEDULED pickup day for your street.SUMMER PICKUPS:Monday July 10, 24 - East SideTuesday July 11, 25 - West SideMonday August 14, 28 - East SideTuesday August 15, 29 - West SideMonday September 11, 25 - East SideTuesday September 12, 26 - West SideFLOOD INSURANCEOPTIONSIf you live in a flood zone, chances aremortgage lenders will require you to have floodinsurance. Keep in mind this is not covered byyour home owners insurance. So what are theoptions?Flood insurance is no longer just sold by theNational Flood Insurance Program. It is nowavailable through private insurers, includingsurplus lines. Surplus lines are licensed instates other than Pennsylvania, but can beauthorized to sell polices in Pennsylvania. For alisting of private insurers and for moreinformation on surplus lines, visitwww.insurance.pa.gov. Go under “Coverage”and select “Flood.”If you believe your home was drawn into aflood zone in error, the decision can beappealed by calling 1-877-FEMA-MAP or byvisiting the website above.Page 3TREE GRANT FOR PHASE IIThe Borough of Hollidaysburg was the recipient of a second treeplanting grant!The grant money was allocated for the second phase of the QuinceCourt Crab Apple tree replacement project. Phase I was to replace thetrees on the outer circle and phase II was to replace the trees on theinner circle.A public meeting was held for the property owners in the phase IIproject area to encourage input and give opportunity to participate inthe tree selection process.ARBOR DAY CELEBRATIONThe Arbor Day Ceremony and tree plantings took place on JacksonFarm Drive on Friday, April 28, 2017. Mayor John Stultz issued aproclamation for the occasion.The Spade and Trowel Club made a donation to the purchase of oneTulip tree and one Cleveland Pear Select tree. Penn-Mont AcademySchool students were there to join the celebration and to help thePublic Works employees to plant the trees.Thank you to Borough Council, Public Works, the Shade TreeCommission, the Spade and Trowel Club, and the Penn-MontAcademy for their continued support.

Mayor Stultzor leaving for more than a day, pleasenotify the police department.Make sure that if your vehicle will beparked on the street for the duration ofthe trip, a nearby relative or a trustedneighbor has a key to the vehicle incase the police department needs it tobe moved due to a water break.Make sure to keep all valuable itemsout of plain sight and keep the vehiclelocked at all times to prevent thefts.Those exceptions include governmentpostings, bus stop signs, informationregarding public utilities, andemergency warnings.Any signs such as yard saleadvertisements erected in the publicright-of-way are forfeited to thepublic and subject to confiscation.A NEED FOR SCHOOLCROSSING GUARDSHollidaysburg Police Department has a permanent part-time and occasionalfill in position(s) for School Guards for the 2017/2018 school year. Startingwage is 7.50 per hour with yearly raises. Anyone interested please stop intothe Hollidaysburg Police Department for an application.REMEMBER .MAINTAIN YOUR GRASS!Please remember to maintain your property. The height of grass and weeds on any premises within the Borough cannotbe in excess of six (6) inches according to Chapter 10, Health and Safety, Part 1, Weed Control, Section 101 of theBorough of Hollidaysburg Code of Ordinances. It is one of the great attributes ofHollidaysburg. With summer on its way,many Borough residents are planning toremodel or initiate other projects regulated byBorough construction codes.Whether you are thinking about a newswimming pool (in or above ground) or abuilding addition, be sure to check with theBuilding Code Department to determine ifyour project requires a permit and iscompliant with Borough construction codes.Be mindful that Pennsylvania State Lawrequires that you must obtain appropriatepermits to have certain types of projects done.Not obtaining the necessary permits couldlead to legal action and fines.
