St. Mary, Chelsea, Michigan Page 3RELIGIOUS EDUCATION& FAITH FORMATIONHow are we doing, folks? Twoweeks have passed since AshWednesday. The Third Sundayof Lent looms large. It’s a goodtime to take stock of ourresolutions and see if we needto adjust, tighten things up,get back on track, or just keepmarching on! If you’ve kept your resolutions well, great!Give thanks to God and pray for the grace ofperseverance as we continue into Week Three andbeyond. If you haven’t done as well as you hoped, don’tlose your resolve! We’ve got plenty of Lent left, andthere’s a great deal of humility to be gained in dustingourselves off and starting again. Don’t give up! You gotthis! One strategy—if you’ve found that you’ve bitten offmore than you can chew—is to pare down yourresolutions and focus on consistency during these firstfew weeks. You can always add a few more penances ordevotions once you’ve got the rhythm down. Even if youcan only do a little—consistently, and with great love—you’re on your way to an abundantly fruitful Lent. Andif you fail again, don’t give up. As St. Benedict said:“Always we begin again.” (Get Fed the CatholicCompany)Tuesday, March 22 The Eucharist Our Lenten 7 pmMass continues with a short presentation on theEucharist following in the chapel. “All the good worksin the world are not equal to the Holy Sacrifice of theMass because they are the works of men; but the Massis the work of God. Martyrdom is nothing incomparison for it is but the sacrifice of man to God;but the Mass is the sacrifice of God for man.” St. JohnVianneyThe Life-Giving Wounds retreat isfor young adults and adults withdivorced or separated parents. We call this the Prayer of theFaithful. The Prayer of the Faithful comes to us from the secondcentury. The priest would introduce the prayers, muchlike today, and then the deacon would announce eachprayer and the people would respond, much like today, and the priest, like today, would offer a concludingprayer. Over time, the prayers developed a pattern:Prayers for the civic authorities, then prayers for thechurch as a whole and then prayers for the churchfamily gathered for “this” Eucharist. The Solemn Intercessions of Good Friday are modeledafter the intercessions of the early church. Here is thefirst of those prayers: “Let us pray, dearly beloved, forthe Church of God, that our God and Lord be pleasedto give her peace, to guard her and to unite herthroughout the whole world and grant that, leading ourlife in tranquility and quiet, we may glorify God theFather Almighty.” By the time of the Council of Trent, the practice of the general intercessions had beenreduced to a simple “Let us pray” (“Oremus,” in Latin),followed by a brief silence. The Prayer of the Faithful was recovered after VaticanII, and the following guidance is given for use incomposing the prayers: [They should be] a) for the needsof the church; b) for public authorities and for thesalvation of the whole world; c) for those burdened byany kind of difficulty; d) for the local community. Theymay be announced from the ambo by a deacon or by alay person. The Prayer of the Faithful offered at a Masscelebrated for a Wedding, Funeral or other special eventare to be adapted to the particular celebration.

MARY PRAYER CORNERMarian apparitions in Ukraine. In 1987,in a small Greek Orthodox church inHrushiv, a miraculous event occurred. This little church suddenly becamecovered with a glowing light. Believerscelebrated Mass and crowds gathered. The KGB were helpless as ferventbelievers prayed together and praisedGod! Our Lady then appeared on theFeast of the Ascension, exactly one yearafter the nuclear reactor disaster at Chernobyl saying “Do notforget those who have died Chernobyl is a reminder and signfor the whole world.” The apparition occurred above this samelittle church dedicated to the Holy Trinity where 500,000witnessed seeing the Virgin Mary over four months. Our Ladygave many messages and thanked the Ukrainian peoplebecause they had suffered the most for the church in the last70 years. Mary prophesied saying; "Forgive your enemies.Through you and the blood of the martyrs will come theconversion of Russia. Repent and Love one another.Teachthe children to pray. Teach them to live in truth and liveyourselves in truth. Say the Rosary. It is the weapon againstSatan. He fears the Rosary. Recite the Rosary at any gatheringof people." In 1914, 73 years previously, Mary had appeared inthe same village to 22 people warning, "There will be a war.Russia will become a Godless country and Ukraine, as anation, will suffer terribly for 80 years and will live throughthe world wars, but it will be free afterward." Her predictioncame to pass, Ukraine became an independent, democraticstate on August 24, 1991. Mary is known as The Madonna ofKiev.MASS INTENTIONSSaturday, March 194:30pm For Our ParishSunday, March 208:00am Special IntentionsBrian and Sarah HartleyBy Phillip and Ann Kwaske10:00am Liz HolloBy The Breakfast ClubMonday, March 21 9:00am First AnniversaryLisa FoytikBy Our ParishTuesday, March 227:00pm Religious VocationsBy Frank and Becky BartelWednesday, March 239:00am Special IntentionsColleen EganBy Debbie ShookThursday, March 249:00am Special IntentionsKonnie KalmbachBy Kerry and Glenna KargelFriday, March 259:00am Lois OrlowskiBy The Orlowski FamilySaturday, March 264:30pm For Our ParishSunday, March 278:00am Special IntentionsRyan and Cathy CaddertonBy Phillip and Ann Kwaske10:00am Liz HolloBy George and Mary McGuireThank you for all theChristmas donations to ourFlint Ministry.
