It feels like we just celebrated New Years’ and“wow”, we are already into a new month. We ended January withAli i Sunday, honoring King Wiliam Lunalilo and began thisFebruary with several planned activities that kept us very busy. Wehad a Lei Making Demonstration at the Sheraton Waikiki. Laterwe attended the Lunalilo Home Luau Fundraiser with nine of ourmembers in attendance. When you read this message I do hopeyour Valentine’s Day was a remarkable one. On the 18th weattended the Annual Friends of the Royal Hawaiian BandMembership Meeting at Queen Emma Summer Palace.You all need to brace yourselves for March; we willcelebrate our founder Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalaniana ole’sBirthday. First, you all need to remember that there will beactivities that YOU all can participate in ; for example onSaturday, 25th the Annual Prince Kuhio Parade, that begins onKalakaua Avenue at Saratoga Road and this parade ends at QueenKapiolani Park where the Ho ike ike celebration will begin at theend of the parade. The next day after the parade and ho ike ikecelebration, is Ali i Sunday and we will meet at the steps of2

Kawaiahao Church at 8:30a.m. for services honoring Prince Kuhio.A musical tribute honoring Prince Kuhio is Ke Ahe Lau Makanichoral concert in the afternoon at Kawaiahao Church as well.Please familiarize yourself with the Long Range Plan thatis available at our Monthly General Membership Meeting. ThisLong Range Plan has all the current and future activities that ourhu i, will be involved in. We welcome any assistance you maywish to get involved in. PEARL HARBOR HAWAIIAN CIVIC CLUBINSTALLATION LUNCHEONPearl Harbor Installation Luncheon was held on January 28, 2017at the Pomaika i Ballroom in Iwilei. Fifty four members and guestsgathered for a very enjoyable lunch, silent auction, Installation andbeautiful nahenahe music of Kaiao and great door prizes.Our Installing Officer was Kahu Wendell Davis and he wasaccompanied by his lovely wife and Mama Kahu, Maraea Davis.There were four members of the Queen Emma Hawaiian CivicClub that attended our Installation. We were very honored to haveFaye Takahashi from Alu Like in attendance.Kau i Kaleo, our Membership Chair installed two new members atour Luncheon. They were: Barney Po okela Hanson andKu umeaaloha Gomes.Our lovely hula dancers that performed during our Luncheon were,Alberta Low, U ilani Kuie e, Kehau Pe a, Toni Lee and MamaKahu, Maraea Davis.The highlight of our Luncheon was our Mitchell Pei AwardWinner, Jennifer Kahaunani Gomes. Ho omaika I Jennifer. Thepresentation was made by our Mitchell Pei Award Chair, CarolRosa.Mahalo to Michael Kapua, David and Miu Lan Oman, Dean Boyd,Charles Kapua, Toni Lee, Norman and Ailene Kawamoto, CarolRosa and Manana Elementary for the beautiful flowers that werearranged by Michael Kapua and Carol Rosa. All of our floralbouquets and flowers were donated to Lunalilo Home for theirLuau.4

Mahalo to Lorna Pacheco and her committee for putting togetherour Silent Auction and for all of you members for the donationsyou made to make the Silent Auction a tremendous success.Mahalo nui Maydeen Maika and Charles Kapua for taking care ofthe Registration Desk.We ALL had a very enjoyable Installation Luncheon.Four generations of Jennifer's 'Ohana surprise her at the PHHCCInstallation Banquet.5

LUNALILO HOME LUAUMembers of the Pearl Harbor Hawaiian Civic Club attended theLunalilo Home Annual Luau on February 4, 2017. Besidesdonating flowers for decorating the stage and tables for the Luauour Club also donated a box of food to Lunalilo Home of what ourmembers have brought to Club meetings over the past few months.The picture in this newsletter shows, President Charles Kapua andmember Carol Lee presenting the Lunalilo Home Staff ourdonation.Members of our Club that attended the Luau were:Tina Andrade, Maydeen Maika, Charles, Puna and Michael Kapua,Toni Lee, Bea Kealoha, Donald Keawe, Mary Berales and CarolLee. Our Club also presented our member; Paulie Jennings, with aFloral and Fruit Bouquet put together by Michael Kapua.6

Ali‘i Sunday – King William Charles LunaliloPearl Harbor Hawaiian Civic Club Members attend Ali'i Sunday in honorof King William Charles Lunalilo at Kawaiaha'o Church, January 29,2017. Members in attendance were: oana Sanders, Monroe Hess,Michael Kapua, Charles Kapua, Toni Lee and Maydeen Maika. In thepicture is also Lunalilo Home Trustee Harvey McInerny. Our memberswent into the King's Tomb and offered beautiful Lei for Ho'okupu.8

SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISERPHHCC demonstrated the art of making Wili and ti-leaf wristletsand poi pounding at the Iolani Palace on January 27, 2017 for theAtlantis Cruises. Working this Fundraiser were: Kehau Pe a,Charles and Michael Kapua doing the fresh flower wristlets and tileaf wristlets and Charles Kapua and Toni Lee demonstrating Poipounding. Kehau Pe'a and Michael Kapua demonstrating ti-leaf andfresh flower wili wristletsOn February 2, 2017 Pearl Harbor Hawaiian Civic Club did ademonstration at the Sheratin Hotel, Moloka i Room, with MichaelKapua, Maydeen Maika and Charles Kapua demonstrating freshflower lei making. Mahalo to Myrna Akana and Carol Rosa forhelping to provide flowers for this demonstration. Call time for thisevent was 6:30 a.m. Mahalo to the Kapua Ohana, our brothersand sister team for being on time. That was very critical.PHHCC HAS A NEW HEALTH & WELFARECHAIRKaren Alamida is our new Health & Welfare Chair. KAMEHAMEHA SCHOOLS OUT REACHPROGRAMOn January 26, 2017 Kamehameha Schools and the Pearl HarborHawaiian Civic Club did a presentation for Alumni, PHHCCMembers and the Community on our Pu uloa area. This was avery informative presentation by our Club and Hailama Fardenfrom Kamehameha Schools. In attendance from our Club were:Tina and James Andrade, Michael Kapua, Charles Kapua, ToniLee, Corey Nojima, Jessie and Lorna Pacheco, Kau i Kaleo, MiuLan Oman and Momi Phillips. The food was ono and we got tomeet many people. We also gained two new members at thisfunction. One of which attended our Installation Banquet and wassworn in as a new member. His name is Barney Po okela Hansonwho is being sponsored by Lorna Pacheco. Way to go Lorna.Alberta Low and Chrissy Anjo getting sworn in to the Ke One OKakuhihewa Board on January 21, 2017. President Charles Kapua,Permanent Member and Hali'a Chair Toni Lee and PHHCC 1st VicePresident Moana Sanders were in attendance.11
