Cheryl's February Newsletter for OttawaVolume IV February 2020February Newsletter for OttawaWhen I admire the wonders of a sunset or the beauty of the moon,my soul expands in the worship of the creator.(Mahatma Gandhi)Why Wait? - Available Now!One of the key messages Jesus proclaimed was that thekingdom of God is at hand - or, as some translations putit - the kingdom of God is near.We don't have to wait until the Second Coming toexperience God's kingdom in our own lives. EverythingJesus taught in his parables - the miracles he did - theway he interacted with people - they all createdopportunities for people to experience God's kingdom intheir own lives, even if only for a moment or two.Today, it's so easy to become depressed by the bitter divisions that are tearing America apart andthreatening our own denomination. It's easy to proclaim our position and say, "this is where we draw theline."But the Gospel is not about who is right and who is wrong, or what is right and what is wrong. The Gospelis a word of hope, a promise that it is possible to experience God's kingdom for ourselves. We may notdo the miracles that Jesus did, but we can still create places of welcome - places of safety - places wherepeople can experience the love of God for themselves. How we do this will vary from congregation to congregation, but the Leading with Care policy and ourchurch's policy for dealing with Sexual Abuse and Sexual Harassment are important precisely becausethey allow people to experience a place of peace, where they can be free from fear.1

Mark it on your calendars - Workshop on Sexual Abuse and SexualHarassment (SASH) will be held at St. Paul's, Winchester, on Saturday,March 7th - 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. To register, contact me at cgaver@cogeco.caCherylPresbytery Ministry Animator(https://www.cherylgaver.ca/PMA/)(And here is the link to this month's PDF).Helpers NeededBarrhaven Moms & TotsBarrhaven Presbyterian offers a safe space forMoms & Tots to come together and supportone another.
